I flew my new DA 100L for the first time yesterday on a 26X10 TBM prop and noticed that there seemed to be more power than my older version of the same motor. Does anyone recall the horsepower figure of the older DA 100?

DA-100 is 10hp. Should spin a 28x10 at 6100 with out a problem.

26x10 Is quite small a prop for a 100cc engine. The recommnded break-in prop for the DA is 27x10. Recommended three-blade after break-in is 26x12.

Same plane with DA-100 using 26x12 Air Model and a 4.5" three bladed FG spinner.

ORIGINAL: galaxydriver

I just purchased this engine for my H9 35% Extra 260 and I am looking to further deepen the $ spent on my addiction...I mean hobby with spinner and prop.

Any recommendations to the size spinner and a 3-blade prop for this beast?

Thanks!

Never tried breaking one in with a 26x10 prop, just not enough. I thought DA recommends 27x10 for break in. Same day tests with engines & props, 3 DA's and 1 DL, all pulling 6380 to 6400 RPM on Mezlick 28x10, change props though and numbers can go all over the place. 26x12 6800 RPM, also Mezlick. Forgot numbers for 27x10 and 28x10 Menz-S, but slightly lower than Mezlick.

Can anyone say if the DL has the same power and performance as the DA?
And how about the same starting and reliability ?

My buddies can't tell which engine they're starting or flying, they have DA's and one of mine is a DL, same performance and reliability so far. It's only been one year, but the DA's have a few years on them also with no problems. So honestly the reliability test is ongoing. How long is reasonable? 10 gallons, 20 or 30 gallons?

I switched my DL for a DA to compare: basically same RPMs and no difference in starting etc. I have 20 gallons through my DL and it seems to be holding up fine.

As for Gallons on the 100cc, I have no Idea. I am however fitting a DL-50 to a brand new Pilot RC Yak 54 that has 150 Liters thru it. A bearing change (only the front one, as it was leaking) not opend the motor at all, pulled the bearing out the front and replaced with a new SKF 6002.

I'm confident that this engine is as good as new.
BTW 150L is +-40 Gallons

I am in to my 5th gallon with Penzsoil aircooled @40:1.
Turning a Mejzlik 27 X 10 @ 6500 and an idle of 1250-1325 rpm.
Starts very easy, never stumbles, and very good power.
I have a second one, but have not run it yet.
I am almost finished and will give a report, it is in a Hanger 9 35% Extra 260.

They say it is in stock for $650.00 and free shipping.

Here is another flight with my DL-100.
Before everyone jumps on my case about a restraint for starting the plane, it is there, I used it to start the plane.
The wife said that she needed the camera, so I shut off the plane to get the camera for her.
I didn't put it back in the restraint to do the restart, but I know I should have.
This flight is with a JFX 27 X 10.

2robinhood,
Can I ask what size pressure fittings you tapped into your stock DL100 mufflers.
How does it work for you? Thanks.

2robinhood,

Nice flying and the engine sounds great.

I'm not beating on you about the restraint, you already know you did wrong and dodged the bullet. However,I just read a post on the Wildhare thread, that might be a good reminder for all of us out here.

I have no pictures of it at this time, without taking the cowl off.
The throttle arm is made from a different material and shaped alittle different.
The engine idle screw is different, has a large tapered head on it.
No big deal, just different then my first one.

I think I used the Great Planes 6-32 Pressure Fitting.
It works real good, but it does seem to load the engine when inverted anything from half or under.
I have had trouble with the DL-50 mufflers falling apart ( three of them ).
They are just made so thin.
I have had the down tubes of two of them just crack and fall right out and the third even crack all the way around where it mounts to the head.
The DL-100 mufflers seem to be made the same way.
I have the stock mufflers from my second 100 saved as a back up for the first one if the take a dump.
On the second 100, I went with the Slimline smoke mufflers for a DA-100.
They bolt right up without any problems.
They weight more, but are much, much stronger and I am sure there won't be any issues being inverted since the nipple is in a defuser in the side of the can.
The stock one I drilled right at the head, so at a lower rpm and inverted, smoke fluid may be trying to go into the cylinder....... ( maybe ).
In my opinion the Slimlines are worth the money.

Slimeline mufflers.

Second generation of the stock DL mufflers.

I may try a Mejzlik 28 X 10 soon.
I am on the edge of ripping the Mejzlik 27 X 10 at 6500 rpm reading on the ground.
So the 28 X 10 my perform better.

Anyone notice any difference in performance between the Xoar 27x10 vs the Vess 27b???
What is the difference in mufflers between the 2 series?

Series two has one of the bolts go down the drop tube like the DA mufflers, which makes the drop tubes line up better through the cowl.

HI all,

i'm just having a DL100 engine for my WH 35% SU-26 plane.
Any idea for solution of choke servo with this engine?
If so, please post pictures.
Thanks:

Kirby
