Default Optical Tachometer

I've been looking at some adverts for Optical Tach's - Non Contact Tach's that have a mention of reflective strips.

Are these OK with model engines? Presumably one MUST be fitted to EACH blade to avoid imbalance?

Any comments please.

Default RE: Optical Tachometer

Most tachs we use are non-contact, and register light fluctuations. There is no need for reflective strips.
If the tach does need them, two strips are well balanced, but a single will do as well. You may get half or double rpm readings though, depending on the tach setup.
