Thank You Gregg( of BP Hobbies)for teaching an old dog new trick's regarding tuning. Setting the low needleyour way worked much better than how I used to do it.

Before I forget I hope that I was able to get all of the black stuff out of your carb body. I had to rebuild it cause I did not have a replacement for it. Watch it and let me know how it is working...

Seems like it is running OK-starts easy, idles good. Doesn't seem to be much difference between 1/2 and full throttle. Would that be normal? In fact it runs better at 1/2 throttle. Again thanks for all you did.

Hey "G",

Also remember that this will not run like one of your Alki moters. These gassers are more about torq and not so much RPM. Your little engine tops should run around 7200 rpm tops on the ground. If it is much higher than that you might want to look at your prop. Just some food for thought.

goirish, use a tach to establish what half throttle is. Maybe the stick is not representative of the carb.
And as captmicom said. Check the prop. Too small of a prop you will flat linebefore the top rpm.

Ace Hardware sould have a bolt with either a slot or a philips head that will work or call Micro Fasteners at 1-800-892-6917 and see if they have the right size bolt that you need.

It can get a bit messy if you are not carful but you can reset your hall switch to see if that helps. I put it right back where you had so it could be retarded a few more degrees. I have found with the RC Xel CDIs that are used in these engines seams to like about 35 degrees BTDC. If your low to high transition is good that might not be a factor.

I will put the plane on the stand and run it tomorrow and post some numbers. What do you think would be a good prop size. I'm using a K'Series MAS 16/8

goirish,
That is exactly how my 20 cc ran (better at half than full throttle) until I finally cut the opening in the cowl to allow more air to get to the carb. The engine would run great on the ground, but once in the air, I had to cut throttle to about half in order to get it to run good.

I do not even know if your plane has a cowl, but I thought I would put this out just in case.

"On a side note, why do some partake in belittleing those who ask what they don't yet know" I hope this was not directed at me. If I belittled somebody, I apologize. That was not my intention.

The MAS is a good all around prop but I tested it with a Xoar 16x8 that was a bit too small at my altitude but I was more into getting it running again....[X(]

Hi goirish
I am using an XOAR 18x8 Beach prop and am getting very good results at 7100-7300 RPM with lots of thrust and a very good transition

goirish, IMHO. I tested props for thrust/rpm's and I beleive the three best are-16/10, 17/8, 18/8. For break-in 17/8. I personnally like Xoar, the mas has to much flex for me.
What type of plane, weight and how you want to fly it has a great deal to do with what prop you use as well.

I started out with an XOAR 16x8 Because i didn't want to load up the engine to much for the break in

I think then I will continue to use the 16/8 for a couple more tankfulls. Then switch over to either 17/8 or 18/8 and see what happens. the plane is a clipped wing 1/4 scale Cub.

yes they are. I covered it in the same pattern as Hazel Sigs clipped wing Cub, except I didn't want blue and white.
this is another picture of it. I was making a pesentation to a nursing home. Had lots of fun with the residents.

Yup, normal, and all the gassers I've run do the same thing. The first 1/4 or so of a gassers throttle arm travel have the most effect. We just got into this again over in the DLE 20 thread. There's a drawing in post# 4272 that shows how to handle this using your throttle and servo arm geometry. Several relevant comments follow. This link will get you to the right page:
