RCGF Engines

RE: RCGF Engines
I just changed my 24 pound TFGS P51D from a ST 3250 glow with a Zinger 18x10 prop to a RCGF 45 cc engine. I use Penns Oil for air cooled engines and 87 octane gas at 32 to 1. I ran the engine for four 5 min runs at 2500 rpm then a 5 min run going from high to low speed. I then flew the plane for 7 munutes on a Zinger 20x8 prop at 7200 on the ground which may have unloaded to 7500 even with the engine being rich. The plane did not fly that well so I landed and changed to a 20x10 Zinger at 6700 rpm. The plane flew great with a great deal of speed and large loops at full power. It flew at a nice scale speed at 75 % power with the engine still a little rich. The engine fits in the plane as well as the ST 3250 and flys better at a much lower fuel cost. If you are going to build this plane try the RCGF 45cc engine.
Thanks, P51Tom

RE: RCGF Engines
Look's good Tom. Here are some final tach readings from my 26cc. With 3 gals thru it.
Fuel 91oct/ oil 100% synthetic - mixed at 50-1
Xoar 17x8= 7400
Xoar 18x8 = 6300
FTE special 18x8 = 6600 This one I like the most. Good rpm and great thrust.
Of course these readings are on the ground.

Captmicom, while I had the exhaust I took a look at the cylinder wall's. Looked as if it was just honed. With three gallons of fuel thru it thought it would be more broke in. What say you?

RE: RCGF Engines
It will take a while for it to get shinny. It has a good coating of nickelite so hang in there. Just treat it with respect and it should give you years of service.

RE: RCGF Engines
Cylinder walls are supposed to be shiny for a good ring seal...If running the engine wears the cylinder walls the rings are too hard or the bore was improperly finished in the first place...These are not iron cylinders, they should be perfectly round and shiny from the factory...If you see hone marks they are below the surface...

Not sure what they were just thought they looked like honed markings. I have no idea of how these are built just using my engine rebuild terminology to describe what I saw. Everything is good. Got in six more flight's today. I will never go glo again.
Anyone wanna buy some glo planes. LOL

RE: RCGF Engines
I just recently purchased a pitts style muffler for my RCGF 20cc and I was a bit disappointed that the muffler increased the length of the overall engine by over 1/4in. requiring me to modify my firewall.
It seems to me that a muffler with a bit smaller can could have been used. Also, the muffler and the lower cylinder fins on the rear of the cylinder make contact and won't allow the muffler to fully seal on the gaskey. This was easily fixed with a file, though, but should have been avoided in the first place.
I own two 20cc engines, though, and I have broken one in already. The other one is being installed on an airframe. So far, I'm pretty happy considering what I paid for these engines. They were on clearance from the dealer I bought them from!
I'm now looking at buying a 45cc engine to put into a Top Flight Stinson SR-9 I will be building soon. Was hoping to get the rear intake but it's out of stock, so now I'm looking at the side intake which is still in stock at BPH. The problem is it's width. It looks like its going to stick out of the cowl a bit which is probably ok because the rear intake is a bit too long and would have required some firewall re-engineering.
I hope my second 20cc and the 45cc engine I will be buying are as good as the first 20cc I have. Keeping my fingers crossed!

RE: RCGF Engines
We should have the 45cc rears back in stock in three weeks.
The 45cc side is being discontinued so what we have in stock is all that s availible.
The new 40cc twin is on the way. Here is a picture and some specs.
Swings a 20 x 10 @ 6800 rpm.

RE: RCGF Engines
Gringo,
Any idea on pricing for that 40cc twin?
I might hold off on getting an engine. I actually placed an order for a 45cc today but emailed to cancel it because I think that 45cc is just too much engine. I was looking at the 32cc but I think that's not enough. I was looking for something 38ccish and that twin 40cc looks absolutely awesome!

It's mis-spelled. It is www.swaerovista.com.
I remember when the internet search engines would usually find something that was mis-spelled. Now they just use that as an opportunity to try to direct you to a different site to buy something...
