Joe sent me an e-mail indicating he received my RCGF 45 engine. He said it was one of the old monsters and I may not recognize it when it comes home. I sure hope he can fix it, I would love to fly my Great Plans Giant Super Sportster again.

I got Good News and Bad News.........
I guess I will go with the Bad News first... I can't get the cases or jug to seal well enough to get the darn thing to draw fuel.
All of the decks are warped. The Good News is... I can't get the thing to seal and draw fuel..!! Remember when I told you that you might not recognize it when you got it back? I am going to have to rebuild the bottom end with new cases crank and so on. I hope that you were not in love with that one "BIG" bolt that you were holding the prop on with because it will be gone most likely. I don't think that I can make it work on the new RCGF cases and crank. I will use what I can off your engine. So stay tuned I will get back to you next week end.

Hey Guys,
I sent my RCGF 45 to Joe Nelson after I gave up on trying to make it run. As you can see by Joe's posts, the engine was beyond repair and he had to pretty much just replace it. I bench ran the new engine yesterday for the first time and I gotta tell ya that it is awsome! It runs like a Swiss Watch, great idle, fast acceleration and a good solid full throttle run. I was hoping to have a maiden flight report for you today but the weather just would not cooperate. We have 40 MPH winds with a storm comming in and it will be several days before the weather clears. My hats is off to Joe Nelson and RCGF for the support of their products. I had less that six flights on that engine before it went south but I have also had it for some time. I believe that Joe and RCGF went above and beyond where most other Companies would do to support their products. I can't say thank you enough to Joe for his support.

I finally had a chance to get that maiden flight in with my new RCGF 45 engine on my GP Giant Super Sportster. The performance was good, great, wonderful, super, awesome, fantastic & stupendous!!! I just can't say how neat is was to get my Super Sportster into the air again after such a long struggle with the old engine. Again I will say, I just don't know any other mfg. that would step up to the plate like Joe Nelson and RCGF did. That is the best customer service I have seen anywhere. Joe certainly made a believer out of me.

Well here it is the New RCGF 60cc twin!! The photos are not the best but you can get an idea of what it looks like. Some of the important measurements are: Jug top to Jug top is 8.25 inches and prop hub the motor back plate is 5.75 inches. I did a test fit in a 50cc size Gold Wing Raven and it looks like it will fit. I will keep you all posted as we beta test this engine.

I bought a RCGF 20cc "Beam Mount" , to install in my Kyosho Mustang 90 ! Do anyone have experience with this engine ? Is that a good one ? Will a 3 blade 16x8 be a good prop to this assembly ?

I have the 20cc in a profile plane. The three best props for me is 15x8, 16x7, and 17x6. I like the 17x6 the best but that's because the plane is a 3D flyer not a fast flyer. The 16x8 will be a bit to much. If it was me I would start with a 15x6 three blade then try the 16x6. Just don't try to take-off all at once. Gain speed gradually at take-off.

Ordered an "RCG 30 cc" engine from Hobby King Friday night June 29th. Cost delivered to my home on Friday July 6th, $255. Here is what I got:
Notice it does say it is an "RCGF" engine.
I built a test stand to run it and got a gas container so I could learn how it works:
Before running the engine for the first time the backplate with the carburetor was taken off (and warranty voided in process) to check inside of engine. All looked good but very dry. Dribbled a couple of drops of oil on crank pin, wrist pin and cylinder walls below piston skirt. New NGK CM6 plug purchased and installed then engine mounted to test stand.
Included with the engine were the ignition module, plastic wrap to cover the wiring, mounting standoffs, muffler and needed bolts. A NiMH 3500 Mah 4.8 volt battery was charged up to use for the first run.
Engine choked, throttle opened and on fifth flip got a blip of ignition. Opened choke, set throttle to idle and on fifth flip it fired up.
You can see a couple of things in the above photo. First there is no information on the front of the cylinder and case indicating the brand of engine. Second you can also see the oil and exhaust residue on the wood after the first 10 minutes of running.
This weekend the engine was run four times for a total time of one hour and burned approximately 40 ounces of fuel in the process. Most of the time the engine was set to a specific rpm and allowed to run. Initially it was limited to 3,500 that was increased in stages to 5,500. During the last run the engine was tested for high and low end. Best rpm with the SOAR 18X8 prop was 7,500 and low end reliable idle was 1,850. Outside temperature in the low 90s with 40% relative humidity. No adjustments have been made nor needed to any of the needle settings.
After an hour of running the engine still has more vibration than I expected. That may be from the prop. It may not be perfectly centered. Another prop will be tried to see if it makes any difference. The engine was run with a mixture of 30:1 gas to oil. Operating temperature at the spark plug, using an Ofna hand held infrared meter, showed about 350-400 degrees. At the edge of the head it was a shade under 300 and low on the cylinder it was about 240. The Ofna gauge being old, seldom used and with a low battery may not have given accurate readings.
Next steps are to run another hour on the bench. Then switch to 40:1 gas to oil ratio using synthetic.
So far the engine is excellent. I am happy with it.
