I have both a 15 and a 20cc RCGF engine and both were incredibly difficult to hand start. I replaced the rings in both and they run quite well now. They came from the factory with 2 rings, but Frank only sends one of his to replace the pair. More power, easy to hand start. Well worth the money.

Have never had any trouble hand starting my 20's. Any of them. Have 2 10cc Evo's though, and they're a different story. Not sure if it's their size, the fact they use muffler pressure to draw fuel, or the fact they have the carb in front. You can start them by hand with a certain degree of patience, but I soon tired of that and just use a starter on them. This new RCGF 10, with it's rear pumper style carb, hopefully will be as easy to flip start as the bigger engines in the lineup.

Hey Lifer,

I am not sure what the problem with your engines was. I have never had any problems starting any of my RCGFs by hand, once I got fuel to the carb the first time unless I have left them setting around for a long time in between runs. if the carb becomes completely dry I have had a tuff time until it gets wet again. I have now had experience with all of them from the new 10cc to the new 120cc without any start problems personally using them to test our new ARF kits and building planes for customers.

Hey ahicks,

Yes the new RCGF 10cc is as easy to start as any of the other models. The carb config is a bit different because of its size however we are using a full on fuel pump on it and not the muffler to supply fuel pressure. The carb is on the rear of the engine. I will send some photos as soon as I can.

I replaced the rings last Summer. I have been hand starting engines since the '60's so it is not a new experience by any means!

Tried my first Bowman ring about 3 years ago. After a long talk with Frank, I came to agree with him on 2 points; Most factory rings are made of a metal that is too hard. Long break-ins are the result. Second, most factory rings are not round. Close, but not quite there. Franks rings address both those issues quite well. For about 13 to 16 bucks you can fix these problems. I have re-ringed DLE's, RCGF's, JBA's, and every other engine I own except my G-62. All have improved remarkably as a result. Easier to draw fuel, hand start, smoother and more power.

Please don't take my comments as disparaging on you or your products. I have had no problems with either. I just wanted to report my first-hand, and repeated success with Bowman's rings.

Hey Lifer,

I am sorry if it sounded like I was offended. No hard feelings here. I want to hear from you guys. That is how we make a better product. I too was only talking about what I had experienced with them. You are right as to the hardness of the rings. It does take some time to brake in and Franks hand made rings can not be bet for their quality. The factory and I have had some discussions about this and they are looking at some new formulas for the rings as well as possibly laser cutting them for a more round ring instead of the other method they are using.

Thank you for your comments.. Keep them coming..

I have a RCGF 26 rear carb in a Seagull laser 200. I'm getting 7,600 with a 18-8 APC Prop. Motor starts and runs pretty good.

Well guys I will have to add my 2 pennys worth, as I have 2 RCGF-26 and a 62 and they are easy to start, but my arthritis gives me fits so I use a starter most of the time. One of the 26's is in a 13lb really old Dragon lady and it fly's it like a scared rabbit on drugs, the outher one is in an ARF bipe (no name) and 1/2 throttle is more than enough, the 62 is in a 1/3 Weeks special at about 24 lbs and it flies it great but take off's can be a hand full if you bring up the power to fast as the torque is unreal, lots of right rudder required even with smooth application of power. So that it for me, I love these engines.

Cheers bob T

I don't have any experience with the small RCGF engines, but the 26cc beam mount and 60cc single have both been great engines. Start right up, tune easily and have great power. I did a review of the 26 here on rcu. I haven't had the 60 very long, but it's been great so far.

Joe, did you still want a customer review on the 60 single, or did one of the giveaway winners finally do one? I plan on flying it soon after Christmas. Since I had to wait on some parts to be warrantied I decided to go ahead and install the smoke system. I wanted to fly the plane as light as possible before doing the smoke system, but I figured I could just remove the battery for the smoke pump and leave the tank empty if I want to do some 3d flying. The pump isn't terribly heavy.

Lemme know if you want another video review.

Here is a pic of my smoke oil injector. I crimped the end of the brass tubing and cut two small holes in the side to make a spraybar. It makes a small curtain of smoke oil to better burn the oil, making fluffier smoke and reduce the amount of unburned oil on the fuselage.

Right out of the box I got 7900+ with a 18x6 Xoar on the 26cc beam mount. Great engine. Tons of torque.

Cool. I'll make a little video and hopefully get some flight footage in it.

Don't forget to let me know when there is another RCGF giveaway! Good to hear about the new warehouse!

Happy New Year to ALL!!!

Been looking for a genuine Walbro Carb to replace the one supplied with my RCGF 15cc engine. I understand that I needed to look for one with a venturi between 7mm and 9mm and in speaking to Walbro, the WT-904D was recommended. While searching for the WT-904D online I stumbled across and placed an order for the WT-629-1 which has a 7.14mm venturi.

Does anyone have any experience with running this size carb on the 15cc?

Thanks

DaleD

Joe,
You did hear from one of the winners----post #6203 6/24/14-----with pics. 60 ran great right from the initial startup. Problems getting a plane in the air since my club has lost access to the field(s) that most of us feel comfortable flying the gassers from.
Will update if things move forward this year.

DaleD,

Either the DLE 20, or 30 carb will bolt right on. I have used both successfully.

Hi Dave,

Crap!! I see that you did respond. I did not receive a notice that you had responded. I do apologize I am very sorry for my statement. This thread is not working the way it should at all for me. I have been at odds with it for about a year now but when I have them look into it they say it is working fine....

Dr. "J" Dave did respond as one of the winners of the new RCGF 60cc Single. Thank you Dave for your report.

hay guys I have a RCGF 45 in my 28 lb spitfire and it runs great I was asked what engine I had in the plane and when I responded they couldn't believe the power that it had for a 45

I do have a question for all you engine guru's I have a JBA 15 and this engine has such a large bore carb a can't believe that this is the carb for this engine so I found a smaller bore carb and it runs a little better but it sounds like it will never hit max rpm always running like its rich and if its to lean it just dyes . I was thinking of putting Bowman rings in it but I wanted some other advise

Does RCGF make a 20cc beam mount rear exhaust engine? If not, are there plans to make one?

Thanks,

Hi Av8tor,

RCGF Does not have a rear muffler 20cc at this time. All I can tell you for now is we have several new engines that will be coming out over the next year so stay tuned...

Hi Jim,

Not real sure if Frank's rings will help or not. My gut guess is it couldn't hurt. As for carbs, if you need one, we sell stock RCGF carbs that should work on your JBA. Just go to www.rcgfusa.com and place your order. Just as an FYI the RCGF carbs and the Walbro carbs are all made in the same plant in China. The only def is my carb top does not say "Walbro"
