No leads yet. By the way, here's a link to some pics of a LawnBoy shortblock on Ebay. I'm thinking carb, ignition, prop hub, and suddenly it's an airplane engine. Check it out.

Default engines

Foamcut: It may work, but the weight may be too much for some planes. I sure wish the ignition parts were more affordable. Captin John Over & out

Default Poulan engines

Hi Flipflop,

How are these conversion engines as far as vibration? Compared to the Z-38, etc? Will they turn my warbird into a pile of sticks?
I think it sounds like a lot of fun to "work out the kinks".

Default ENGINE BALANCE

RCIGN: What can you tell us about the over balance jobs that Dario B. (cant spell his last name) used to do on the old Quadra engines?? How was this done, and is it possible to place crankshat on a high-point balancer and use clip on weights to get better balance. Is the counter weight suppose to balance out the full weight of piston and rod assy? Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Thanks Very Much Captin John

Default Poulan 30

All of the motors that I've converted have run smoothly. Of course I go to the trouble of balancing the flywheels after working on them (you'd be surprised how much some of the stock ones are out). I've had a couple of G-38s and while they are not real shakers (except at idle), my Poulan 30 is smoother. Removing the flywheel and the electronic ignition are real contributing factors here. Showed it to some of my buddies this weekend and they were really impressed. We'll find out how it flies in a week or two, just got finished mounting it on my H-9 Edge. Got the chance to run it some more: Zinger Pro 18x6, 8700rpm
Zinger 18x6-10, 7400rpm, and an even 7000 on a Zinger 18x10. I'm really anxious to get this one in the air!

Default Balance

There is no way to completely balance a single cylinder engine..
using different percentages of the weight of the rotating parts of the engine will make it smoother in some cases..The percent varies according to the rpm where the smoothness is desired..I don't know what the percent is, somehere between 70 and 80 percent..
Dario figured out what worked best for the early Q35s and sold what he called overbalanced flywheels..It looked like a weight pressed into the rim of the flywheel...
The Lawnstation website says the Poulan Patriot is 36 cc.

Default Poulan 30

Yeah, I've seen that. There must be a couple of different versions of the Patriot. Wal-Mart has a bunch of them that all say 30cc., 1.8 cubic inches. Could be a new one I guess. I'm guessing here, but from what I've seen, it appears that the 30,32,34,36, and 40 all use the same cylinder. I wonder if Poulan would tell us anything if we contacted them?

I looked at all the Poulan Pro chainsaws at Lowes, and all the engines looked similar except for the 46cc, which has noticeably thinner cooling fins. Is the 46cc any different internally than the others?

One of the reasons I like Ryobi is that they publish owner manuals with exploded parts diagrams. Very informative and good for checking similarities among like brands and models.
