MVVS 1.6 Gas needs Plane....
I have a MVVS 1.6 that is need of a plane. I really want a Cap, Edge or a Giles for it. But just cannot make up my mind on which one to try. I am Wondering if any of you have tryed this thing in one of those planes and what you thought of it?

MVVS 1.6 Gas needs Plane....
Test flew the maiden flight today on a friend's Goldberg Sukhoi with the MVVS 1.60. Not unlimited vertical, but will fly the plane like a 1.20 4-stroke would. Used a Menz-S 18x10 prop. The engine ran very well, nice low idle (1500 rpm) and about 6400 rpm on top.

Diablo, you should try a 17x8 APC to let the engine unload a bit. Mine was turning this prop at 7800 pretty easily on the first gallon. That should put out a couple of pounds more thrust and give you the same speed as the 18x10. Be careful with that big prop or the engine will overheat. My buddy tried a 18x8 last night on his and it started overheating because of the load. He was only getting around 6200 from the 18x8 cf prop.

I have a MVVS 1.6 on a GP 1/4 scale Giles and it is a great combination. I can hang it on the prop all day long and it will fly a long time on a 16 oz tank.

I've got one on the Lanier 1.20 Edge 540 and its great. Not total unlimited vertical but when it does run out it makes for some pretty tail slides. It will fly the plane thru any of the scale acro paces with ease but dosent have it for extreem 3D. I'm more into the scale acro than the 3D so its perfect for me. The 17/8 (APC for me) seems to be the best prop. It idles down to around 1500 & tops out around 8000. Working on the 3rd gallon of fuel.

Wayne- What prop are you using? Weight of the plane and RPM's would be great too.
I have one a 1/4 scale Cap weighing 12 pounds and it'd great! See avitar. Not unlimited but very good. I have a Beila 16x10 on it running around 8000. Had a Menz 18x8 on it, but it loaded it up too much at 6800.

I put one in a Sig Four-Star 120. Got the first flights on it yesterday and today. It's only gone through 1 tank of fuel so far and is still on the 35:1 fuel-oil mix for break in. So far it's spinning a Graupner 3 bladed 16x8 at 7600 RPM, and a plain old Zinger 18x8 wooden club at 7400 RPM.

I think the 18x8 likes the tuned pipe. I hear this engine really comes alive with a pipe. Not sure why the rpm on the 16x8 is so low though.?

I have mine in a 13lbs Cap 232, and it does 8100rpm on a APC
18x8, with the original tuned pipe.
Not unlimited vertical, but I still think it matches the plane very well.
I do recommend a plane that allows you to use the pipe,
as it gets the best out of that engine. Pretty quiet too.

Lars - where did you get your tuned pipe? Is it the MVVS? 8100 on the 18x8 is very good. That should be good for around 20 pounds of thrust. I would think you could hover a 13 pound plane? My plane weighs 12 pounds and almost hangs on the 16x10 at 8000 rpm.

Anyone having problems with the graphite coating on the piston flaking? My buddy's engine would run fine for a couple of flights, then foul the plug. Replace the plug, good for a few more flights before trouble again. The plug is being shorted by flakes of graphite. The flaking is on top of the piston. He's thinking about sanding the top of the piston to remove that crap.

I've ran the old and new version of the 1.6 in a rebuilt Sig Cap 232.
The newer red head version would be nice in a new Sig Cap 232, my 232 was a rebuilt wreck so I am carrying extra wood and glue.
I picked up +400 rpms from the old to new engine, the red head swings the Bolly 16x10 at 8700rpm, after a couple of gallons I expect it should do 9000rpm on this prop but I have switched to a Zinger Pro 17x8 to drop the rpm down and I have a Menz 17x8 on order.
The combo performs nice but not unlimited.
