Some more pics. The weight of the engine alone is about 48 oz. With ignition unit and muffler it goes up to 58oz (less muffler mounting screws). The engine is very well packed in polystyrene foam and compartmentalised- no chance of damaged fins or such.

That is the Zenoah G45 cylinder is it not? Ralph could also send customers a new carb block to bring the carb inside most cowls. It's a nice looking case too...anyone willing to pull the cylinder so we can have a peek inside?

RE: TGY 52
I was able to run mine today and I am very happy so far! It started easily after getting gas to the carb, the Hi speed needle was too lean for my elevation at 1200 ft. I used synthetic oil at 40:1 and 90 octane gas because thats what I already had mixed for my other engines. After carb adjustment the RPM was 6750 with a BME 20x8-10 3d prop and 6400 with a Zoar 22x8 a touch rich off peak RPM. This engine will idle down below 1400 RPM with great transistion and is without a doubt smoother at all RPMs than my DL 50 but down a few hundred RPMs.
I have no issues with this engine other then the muffler is crude but does have beefy welds so it should hold up well. I will machine it or make a tapered spacer so it will be straight with the head. The spark plug was a non resistor which promply was tossed in the trash. Do not trust the carb settings which may be too lean or rich, I just can't believe how some people buy engines and report they didn't have to adjust the carb! If you don't tweak it, how would you know if its adjusted correctly. So far I'm happy with this engine but the real test will be when mounted on a plane and flown. Hamman

RE: TGY 52
hamman, which plug did you substitute for? from what I've read so far, the vibraton levels are quite low for an engine this size, whats the difference in rpm between this engine and the dl50? Thanks

The NGK plug I use is a BPMR6F. I'll have to tach the DL again to be sure but with a 22x8 Zoar its at least 3 or 400 hundred RPMs better. It has 2 gallon of fuel run through it. Larry

RE: TGY 52
I was going to start a thread but I found this one!! I decided to purchase a TGY 52 and tear it all apart and show all of its greatness or flaws. So here we go! I will post pictures!
First let me say the packaging was great and it did come with some tools.

Here are a few pictures of the engine put together but without the velocity stack on the carb. The finish looks great and the ignition is the standard for most single cylinder gass engines DL, ABC, Copperhead ETC. Only two first impression drawbacks one the carb mount is long and two the mufler mounts at an angle making it impossible to mount most pitts style muflers.

I started by removing the cylinder and closely inspecting it. I found the casting to be standard with great milled ports and smooth cylinder walls with no scratches. It has a standard squash band at the top to eliminate skirt slap. it doe show signs of being ran! This is from the factory adjustment run.

Here are a few close ups of the cylinder. I have seen in other brands where the sparkplug threads are poor and strip out quickly not here! The pointed portion sticking down in the exhaust port is there for the piston ring so it doesn't catch on the port. Sorry some of the pictures are blurred. But as you can see the quality is good.

Here a some pictures of the piston, piston pin and bearing. The bearing is not sloppy and fits with a close tolerence. The piston pin is held in by two circlips and fits in snug. The piston is a two ring piston milled out to enhance port timing. i looked it over and found no casting or manufacturing flaws or cracks. The ings are held by two pins to stop them from spinning to a position where they can get caught in an intake or exhaust port. So far it all ooks good.

RE: TGY 52
Here you can see the carb, intake manifold and the velocity stack. The intake manifold is glass filled nylon with no port for the fuel pump to get case preasure, so a seperate line must be ran as shown. the carb is similar to Walbro or Zamma. I tore into it and it is nearly exact as Walbro to include the fine screen that may clog if you do not filter the fuel. The velocity stack is plastic and is not a requirement to make it run propperly. The carb also has the standard High and low needle adjustable settings.

The main case is beutifuly milled and is nothing short of precision! The main bearing were a little tight but nothing out of the ordinary. The connecting rod is steel and has a standard lower pin bearing in between the two piece pressed together crankshaft. I can't believe the price for this 52cc!!!! one thing i did find is some left over shavings from the milling! This could be bad news, so I contacted United Hobbies/Hobby King /hobby City. I got a quick reply that they were told of the problem and it will be taken care of ASAP. I cleaned it all out with no damage to any of the components. I am glad I did not run it first I am sure there would have been some light damage.

RE: TGY 52
the main shaft hub is held in place by a sheer key and bolted to the crank. The extension is bolted to the crank hub with three hex bolts and is more than secure. I found that the propeller mounting center bolt can be installed from the back or standard from the front of the extension. If you mount it from the back you will have to find a nut that fits on the bolt but this may allow you to use spinners that require anadapter and a bolt in the center to hold them on like True Turn. The washer that holds the propeller to the shaft can be used as a guide to drill the three holes in the propeller.

RE: TGY 52
The muffler is the number one complaint on the sellers site. I can see why! It looks poor compaired to the rest of the engines quality. It fits on the cylinder with no isues but I plan on using the muffler that came with my DA 50. YES THE DA 50 MUFFLER FITS THIS ENGINE!! I wish the exhaust did not have an angle then I would be running a pitts muffler on this machine. If you have an aircraft with a big cowl the slanted port will not be a problem.

Here are some pictures of all of the components that come with the purchase. They are all layed out close to the order of dissasembly. I hope this will help some people make a decision weather or not to purchase. I am looking forward to running this in a Great Planes Giant Super Sporster, I am sure it will have unlimited vertical. Once i get it running on the plane I will compare it to my DA 50.

C141FlyGuy,
While its open, would you do me a favor, and measure the diameter of the piston (that is if its not stamped on the piston somewhere)
I'm not sure if I trust the 52cc claim. The cylinder looks like a industrial product and "should" have a 43mm diameter. If so, then this engine would have to have a very long stroke of +- 36mm to make it a 52cc. If that is the case, then it should have some good torque.

RE: TGY 52
C141, thanks for the shots.I decided to takeoff the engine as you're the second person to record metal debris in the crankcase.Mine was clean thankfully, however I didn't like the liberal use of silicone sealant in the engine. i removed as much as i could. Took some pics while I was at it.
I measured the piston and got about 45mm diameter, but this is a rough measurement.
Just remembered, in the good ole days , my honda moped was 50cc and this engine is 52cc!!
Just measured the swept volume, going by the ftl 45cc dimensions, I get 48.9cc ( 43mmx31mm)= 3.414x 21.5 x 21.5x31= 48.9cc
Measuring the TGY 52 - 3.414 x 22.5 x 22.5 x 31= 53.6cc
Are my calculations wrong?

RE: TGY 52
Very interresting!
The engine looks well machined.
I have to check again: What is the minimum distance from the firewall to the prop?
I just canĀ“t chose between this engine and the CRRC Pro 40 kit.
This is for a 1/4 scale Fokker Dr.1 so both engines will have more than enough power!

RE: TGY 52
Hi guys. Think I'm gunna pull the trigger on this one for my 1/3 GP Pitts. Is there a drill guide for the firewall? How do you guys know the engine is centered if there isn't a guide. Will either a DL or DA drill guide/template work? Also, from my firewall to the cowl opening I need 6 1/4 inches. Would one of y'all be able to measure and let me know what length standoffs I will need?
Thanks in advance!!

RE: TGY 52
I know a person shouldnt have to fix something on their brand new engine but if it was me id take a piece of 1/8th or better piece of 3/32 aluminum plate.
Use a grinder or better yet a belt sander, then grind the piece of aluminum at an angle so its shaped like a wedge. Then drill holes and the center to match the exhaust port and use it as a wedge to shim the muffler back into a 90 degree position.
Now i have all these tools and more because i do conversion engines and it wouldnt take me but 15-20 minutes to make it.[maybe].
That would be the quickest way to fix this issue. Then just use silicone between all mating surfaces with no gaskets and youll be fine.Plus by adding this shim it will help move the muffler away from the fins a little.

RE: TGY 52
Yeah,, had to Dremal more cowl to fit the 52's muffler on GP Christen Eagle II.
Started this 52cc today. First flip with prime. Leaned it in a tad running Xoar 20x8. Very smooth throttle and tons of torque. Very little vibration compared to other engines I've had. And from the thrust at full throttle I'm guessing unlimited upward.

Hi Sturtz!!
How much of wing as your eagle?? IĀ“ve an edge 540 1,97 mts from Seagull, and i was going to buy an CRRC 50 cc
but right now iĀ“m considering to buy this one!! Do You Guys think that it as enough power for torque roll??
And the problem with the left over shavings from the milling...does anyone have more of it??
Many thankĀ“s
