RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
if this is going to be your first gas engine, you will need a user friendly engine, the Taurus 52. i put it on a plane and set the needles and NEVER had to look at it again!! it's like the bunny it just keeps running and running.also it's the smoothest engine i have and NEVER dead stick in the three years i owned it.
these are the engines i have now to compare it to.
1-evolution 58gx2
2-da50's
1-mvvs 45
1-mt57

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
Most gas engines will not require needle tinkering like 2-stroke nitro engines do. I fly flight after flight with no re-tuning on most all the ones I use. I have or have had, FPE, 3W, CRRC, Thor, SV, Zenoah, DL, RCS, Sacks, Husky, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple. Some in this list are expensive and some are not, but they all run well, some better than others, and some need some tinkering when new to get all they can give (CRRC, Thor). But for the first engine, with easy habits right out of the box, and above average power, plus a very reasonable price tag and good service over a number of years and planes, I would start with the DL50. As your tastes are refined, and you want more power for a lot more money, you can move up to the 3Ws and DAs of the world. The DL is very popular for a reason, or reasons.

How about vibration, I hope not the counterweights on the crankshaft. For my money I'll choose smooth operation with ease of operation over ultra light weight anyday but of course I don't want a heavyweight either.

Don't compare it to Ralph's 62. Thats not fair! Ralph had to search for motor mount bolts after every flight with the 62. Thats why he has the BME now

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
It thumps a little less than my 62 and spins the same props a little higher.
Altavillan,,, Only had 2 bolts come off one time, but the 2 held, We only noticed it when I went to start the engine for the next flight and it was a little wiggly. That old 62 on a stock DA header, mac's pipe and NO tuning did put out the ponies though.
I did find them laying in the tail end of the fuse

for most 50CC class engine , it wont tell you different when use light load prop like 22-8 or 23vess A. all can do over 7000 RPM. try bigger size or heavy load prop like 24-8 or even 24-10 , than you will see the defferent . most good 50CC plane on the market are about 16 to 18lb . so I assum every engine are able to doing the good job for 3D or IMAC.

What's the Poll about? Do we have opinions on the engines listed? Is the intent to find out how many good opinions there are for each? How many negative opinions each? What are we trying to learn??

Who cares? Come on in and have some fun. Or come on in and stir some mud. Almost as much fun as taking a perfectly good plane appart and putting it back together.

i thought the guy was getting his first gas engine and wanted to know the pro's and con's of the different types?
i don't think any of them are worth the money we pay for them.

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
If I can make mine balance with the EF Yak i would guess it will be easier on smaller birds in the 50cc range.
My bird is lighter and I am not good enough to tell I dropped weight but I am good enough to tell I gained power over my last 50cc motor

As for the poll? It seemed to turn into a good discussion for the guys to goof around in, And it does make good reading at times.
Thanks.

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
Hi!
MVVS 45cc (Evolution in the US).
My 45cc turns a 24x8 Mentz at 6600-6700rpm with the small MVVS cannister silencer using Krumscheid exhaust tubing. Haven't touched the needles...
Flies a Peak model Yak-45 (Aero works copy) at 7.7 kg real good. Hoovers at under half throttle. Had to modify the plane slightly to get room for the MVVS cannister silencer and lift up the landing gear . Also got a new lighter landing gear from Troy Built models.
PS!
The flex steel tubing (Krumscheid) seen at bottom left didn't work! It leaked the first time I ran the engine...so I had to replace it with a rigid piece.

So far I'm leaning towards the Taurus 52. The motor seems to fit with my concerns about gas motors. I'm a old school back yard mechanic, and from what i know of motors. The DA style ( stand offs) You either have a carb to close to an fire wall ( carbs need air), or you have a carb protruding into your fire wall ( carbs spit gas ).
So, I'm waiting on my 2nd reply from Taurus, (1st. one was the price..$600.00.) about some specs that i need, Radial mount diameter, Length from back of mount to the prop hub, total weight with ignition..Ect....
Thanks.

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
you know this is what i been saying for a while.6700 with a 24-8 on a not even a true 45cc engine.i have been saying that if MVVS ever made a true 50cc engine it would be at the top of the heep of the 50cc engines.now that they started to listen to me i can't wait to hear some reports on there new 50cc.
Don,the Taurus 52 is one of the few engines that i would recommend someone to buy.
1-i hate an engine that shakes a air frame to pieces.
2-i hate an under power engine.
the Taurus is neither.

RE: Opinions on your motor Experience
I would go with a Fox engine from Fox Manufacturing. They are made in the USA and they have parts for the engine should you need it. Plus their warranty, service and support and superb.

Of course if you want something more exotic I would go with the MVVS engines.
I am quite partial to the MVVS water cooled engine that they make. That has to be the way to go for sure.

Pterodacty - 36 new on the market they are junk!
(The O/P was asking about 50cc class anyway)
If you have a problem with your 36 go to that thread and someone will help you make it run better http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...page_19/tm.htm
