TMM-106 twin is now in production
Hi Guys:
The rumors about this engine from TMM (formerly 3mm but 3M objected) have been knocking around for a year. I am happy to announce that the engine lives, it's real, and I have one (actually I have two).
This is a 2 cylinder boxer style engine of 106cc. It is similar in layout to the newer style DA-100 but it is definitely different. TMM cast a whole new cylinder, they did not use the DA copies that are used by almost everybody else and they did not even use the old TOC-53 cylinders. The design is all new which is clear once you look at it.
I have not yet run it, I'm putting it on a new plane that will be done in a day or two, I hope to fly the combo later this week.
The engine comes with the proven Rcexl ignition and a beautiful set of polished mufflers. Exhaust options also include canister mufflers in 2 sizes and headers in 3 drops (25, 50, and 75mm). I believe it has the same 42x35mm bore/stroke as the TOC-53, it has two-ring pistons and uses a genuine Walbro carburetor.
The weight bare is 4 lbs. 15 oz. including the carburetor. This does not include spark plugs, prop washer/bolts, mufflers or ignition. I believe the all up weight will be about 3/4 pound lighter than a DA-100, but I cannot confirm anything right now except the bare weight.
As I said, I have two engines now. They have already been through rigorous testing at the factory, but these two engines will fly for several hours before I go further, then I expect to have inventory available for sale in about a month.
My understanding is that the engine turns a 27-10 JXF/Xoar prop above 6500 rpm, but I will do verification testing.
The price will be under $800 complete. Canisters will be available for $200 for a set of two including headers, couplers, clamps and the muffler.

Tom, please do me a favour and measure the bolthole spacing for the mufflers. I need two new mufflers for my Brison 6.4. I like those polished mufflers[sm=tongue_smile.gif]
Thanks for your help, Tom

For 3 views use a DA-100 as worst case. The length is the same, width is less by maybe 1/4". If a DA or DL-100 will fit the TMM-106 will fit too.

Thanks a lot, Tom. Now I need to measure the distance on my Brison and if it's (hopefully) the same, I would like to order a set from you.

The bolt hole spacing on your 6.4 should be 35mm. I have a 53 muffler here and it looks like you could oval the mounting holes enough to make the new mufflers fit on the Brison 6.4.

Yes, if it's not more than a millimeter than I can easily elongate the holes to make it fit/

Flawless running.
Have a 106cc, 4 x 53cc and getting another 106i shortly.
Just wish they were marketed better, they certainly are a top quality product.
Cheers

Hi Tom F, are you having the headers and cans made or are they coming from the TMM factory?

TMM does have canisters but I prefer the cans that I get from another source because they fit in my planes better. The TMM cans are long and skinny.
thread is almost a year old, any updates on this beast?

The headers come from TMM and are relatively soft. At least two of them have blown out at the turn where the hot gas first hits the side of the pipe. To date I do not have a good solution for the header dilemma.

TMM went back to the drawing board and designed a new cylinder and piston for the 106. I have 3 sets of them and will be retrofitting a few engines in the coming days. They claim big power gains, we'll see what happens soone.

I hope so to, but if it doesn't then I guess we'll be on to the next adventure. I will be receiving my 35% Yak and 29% Sbach at the end of February so hopefully I will get them both ready to fly for the spring and I'll let you know how the engines and exhausts work out.
