On board starter system anyone?
Recently I worked with a FEMA starting system kit, adapting it to the 45cc MVVS engine. It worked out OK (with a twist) for the 58cc engine as well.
If there is enough interest in such a system, I could run a small series of CNC produced parts, to supplement the FEMA kit, and adapt it to the use in MVVS engines (or Evolution gassers)
The system uses a speed 600 electric motor with double gear reduction on 3 lipo cells. Added weight is about 500 grams.
Starting is addictive just by the push of a micro switch on the plane, or by flipping a switch on the transmitter. The 58 needed no choke application at all, the 45 needed the choke-on, ignition-on sequence to start after a 24 hrs soak in the freezing cold.

Pe,
this is an interesting setup - where is the starter system connected structurally?

In order to make it work, you need to make several adapters, especially for gas engines.
Apart from general kits, Fema mainly produces engine dedicated kits for zenoah engines only. You are on your own if you use a different engine.
The system I have made and tested so far works off a small 1200mAh 3S LiPo battery, and is so strong on the 45 and 58, that I would not hesitate to use it on a 80cc engine.

That would be interesting to play with on something scale ... like a big warbird ... where weight is not so critical. Does the system produce a "whine" when the engine is running? It looks like the starter gear does not disengage. Hmmmm ... it might sound like a supercharger

The complete lay-out is like this, in order of drive train:
speed 600 motor
first gear reduction
cardan shaft between first and second gear reduction
second gear reduction
one-way bearing on cone
cone flanged to prop drive
special prop nut
several fastening brackets to join all the parts
switches and microswitches for the ignition and to operate the motor off the battery.
