Default CH Ignition 'Shelf' Life ?

Hi Guys-
I have a CH Ignition module that came with a Brison 4.2 I acquired 6-7 years ago. The module is 'new' and unused although it has been sitting up for 6-7 years. Haven't started it yet, but was wondering what the shelf life of the coils might be ? Seems like I read someplace where the ignition coil can dry out over the years ? Worried about long term reliability more so than will it run right now, as it's going in a heavy warbird that will not be very fun deadstick. Engine gurus please chime in.
Thanks-Mike O

Modern day Epoxy coils seem to last indefinitely. 20-30 yrs anyway.

The old Varnish based coils from before the 1960's would deteriorate rapidly. If not kept in dry conditions they would be gone in 3 yrs

If your CH ignition is in a silver (aluminium) box it should be OK. If its Brown and held together with 2 screws and 2 pop rivets, fer git about it.

I have a couple of the original CH ignitions that are over 10 years old and still going strong with no problems

I have one of the riveted brown boxes that's working fine, well last summer anyway. The engine it was on was test ran in 1988.

I would take tkg's word on C&H Ignitons as the best info you could possibly get - if you know what I mean.

Use it until it quits and the get a new one. The coil will be the part that fails and a new coil, lead , cap and labor would be more than its worth.

Its sorta funny the old pop riveted case ignitions that are in constant use do fairly well for longetivy . But the same ignition that is NIB but has been on the shelf for 15 years will have a very failure rate, when somebody finally gets around to using it.
