That is a good idea...and I love the gunmetal color, but the CNC engraving shows up very nicely with the satin black anodized finish!!!

Isn't it winter in Antarctica? Do you mind if I cut ahead of you in line?

I'm very impressed that you are making this engine at a reasonable price. I do not have a plane for this size engine but I am going to keep my eye on these. I really like the muffler in back of the engine, great idea. Its funny there were a few people mentioning price one a few boards BUT no need to buy a 300.00 engine and a 89.00 muffler then have to worry about the rear pitts shaking loose.

Can I hold out for the gun Metal ?? LOL

Hey Andy!! I used to use Chode as my avatar on FG also. Too funny. Loved that show. This is a family forum, or else I'd have posted an image of Sixx.

Hi,

JUST A FYI

There is a new kid on the block...MADE IN USA...Syssa engines makes a 30cc

There was a new 30cc engine shown at Joe Nall this week, made in Southington, Connecticut, USA. The company is called Syssa Aircraft and the engine is a rear induction, 39 oz incl muffler, standoffs and ignition. The only non-US item I saw was the RX Excel ignition. Todd Syssa explained that the first production batch are in process of manufacture, and hopefully will be available around June. I've signed up for one.

All of the components are his own design and manufacture, including his own cylinder head, crank, crankcase, etc.

The reported numbers were 8600 rpm on an 18x6 Xoar, which he said was the best prop he's tried for aerobats. One of his engines on display was installed in an Aeroworks 72'' Yak, which he told me came in at 11.2 lbs, and hovers on 3/8 throttle. He was going to fly it later at the Nall (I was there Thursday) and I'd be very interested in hearing back if anyone saw it fly.

Don't know if you saw the 2nd engine he had with him, which he showed in his booth. The black anodized crankcase will be the production version, due in the next month or 2 he said. The one in his AeroWorks 72'' Yak had a glass bead blast finish. He claims a weight of 39 oz including muffler and ignition, which puts it in the same weight range as an OS160 w/muffler. Turning an 18x6 Xoar at 8600 rpm is in the same ballpark as the OS, as well. It's about the same power as my 30 cc Wolf Predator 1.8 (30 cc) but the weight is much lower

Reference: This above information taken from FG's.

Moderator added name of engine to title

Is the back-plate made from cast or hi-strenght aluminum? Thanks Capt,n

The backplate is CNC machined out of high strength, wrought aluminum. Cast would definitely not work well in this application. Actually every part on the engine including the connecting rod, is forged and CNC machined or machined from wrought material.

of course, except for the cylinder...which is high pressure die cast and CNC machined.

Todd, using the shortest standoffs possible, what would be the distance from the firewall to the prop hub? You posted a side view of the engine mounted in a Cub, but it looked as if it could go back even farther. My G38's muffler bolts barely clear the firewall and I have no problem with heat from the muffler.

Yes...very busy making engines. The website has not been updated yet with the shopping cart...it will be soon. Sleep is always precious!

The shortest distance we have available as a stock configuration is 5.200". The engine can go back a bit farther, but the muffler will hit the firewall unless the firewall bottom clears the muffler. Not many planes will need much less than the 5.200". It goes up to 6.600" and anywhere in between. All the stock firewall to hub distances will be on the website in the shopping cart when its ready (hopefully in the next few days) and if there are any custom lengths required, we can make them for a small charge. The modeler, if he/she has a lathe or mill, can order the next longest size and cut them down to what they need for custom lengths.

Ok...we finally have some photos...everything in the photo is what the engine will come with stock....

The throttle ball links will be installed (one on the throttle, one on the choke)...and the stud coming out of them works well with Sullivan Golden Rod. (2-56 thread)

Our clear mount template works really well and locates the hole for the throttle arm and fuel line. Cut it to fit on your firewall...line up the cross hairs and tape in place. Directions are right on the template. Just drill right through it. Makes it a snap to install.

We'll also be offering an optional "gas install" kit which will include many small, but necessary items, like fuel line, fuel line "T", gasoline tank stopper, etc...

Engine options will be:

CNC Machined aluminum CDI mount
Muffler inserts to lower the sound by about 5-6 dB at top rpm
Canister muffler
voltage regulator for using lithium batteries

Everything will be on the website soon! We'll email everyone...and post here when its ready...

Thanks Bob...
By the way...the milled aluminum "stripe" on the side can be used to double check the engine thrust line against whatever you have for a thrustline on the plane.

Tod,

Is your ignition actually wired the propper way ? No cutting of the wires or making an adapter ?? I had to change the end on my 40cc , 26cc, and 20cc .
