I've gone all the way to .030 and it works well. In fact, I got an engine back from Todd, and no matter what I did, it wouldn't start. Pulled the plug and thought it looked like it was a little tight. Gapped it to .030 and it started on the first flip. I think the spark plug gap must be more critical to this engine than it is maybe for other engines. Has anyone done any testing with different gaps? If not, I may set up one of my engines on the test stand and run it with different plugs and gaps and see if anything turns up.

I usually go with what the plug manufacturer recommends, but there are a lot of variables with the engine design and the ignition usedthat may make it necessary to change the gap.

Wow, great looking planes.

Temp was 71 degrees and very light winds. Really good dayfor late January even though it was 41 degrees for my first flight today. Got inseveral great flights. Didn't notice any difference in the engine performance with the plug gap at .025. Did not need to make any carb adjustments. The engine ran perfectly, so will keep the gap there since I tend to run mine a little rich.

Anyone have pictures of how you set up your choke to open and close it. I'm having problems coming up with with something for my 25%MSXR

Pictures of my setup are in my gallery. I started off with a servo to move the nyrod, but now I just operate it manually. It is spring loaded to the off position. Since I use the prop rocking method to draw fuel with the choke on I haven't found it necessary to have it lock in an on position. It only takes 6 to 8 rocks of the prop to choke the engine.

Wow, Texas in March, you may need to put 10 or 20 pounds of lead ballastin your Extra to keep it from blowing away. If you get to the Fort Worth area, stop by the Greater Southwest RC club, we have a nice grass field that is mowed like a putting green. May have a few bumps leftfrom the hogs digging it up, but we try to keep them smoothed out.

Steve,
Thanks - putting greens? Wow, sounds wonderful - you keep those armadillos out? but we will still be rolling south to the area around Temple. I have flown at the nice paved runway near Austin - and of course, the Temple Aero Modelers. Hope to get a few days of calm weather, if not I will just enjoy the warm :-)

There seems to be a plethora RC fields and flying opportunities in Texas, lots of undeveloped flat space-

Paul

That is pretty snazzy.

I just used a flexible control rod out the bottom, ran through a piece of fuel tubing wrapped with safety wire so it stays where it is set.

I got fancy with my push (pull) rod. It has a "J" bend on the end of it. I use that hook to kind of "hang" it on the cowl when I want to close the choke. Unintended bonus is the fact it generally comes unhooked as soon as the engine starts (!) - thus making it an automatic choke? Gotta love it! Often the setup allows for one or 2 flip starts from cold. -Al

I call and I call, No answer. Sometimes I get to leave a very nice and polite message, But I never hear back. The message service fills up pretty quick when its empty so I imagine others are trying to contact them aswell. Has anyone recieved any engines from them? Are the V2 engines even out yet? I "orderd" a V2 engine, tone inserts, cdi mount, drill tool and m3 pin drive. It's been 4 months, I'm really starting to wonder [&o] Thanks guys for any info.

Just got back from flying my GSS with the Syssa 30cc engine. Temps were in the 30's at the start, but at least the winds were calm. Seems like there were no ill efects from opening up the spark plug gap. The engine runs great as usual.

Steve, I have not been able to get out due to the weather however, the last time I flew the Super Stearman, it seemed to have a better low end response with the wider plug gap.

From what Todd explained to me the V2 is the same engine with different porting in the cylinder. Claims to boost static thrust from 18lbs to 21 lbs. And yes, last I heard he was waiting on the cylinders to be returned from the lining process.

There's a guy near me who flies these Syssa gas engines. He swears by them. I was there when he made this video last year. The wind was unbelievable, I thought for sure he was going to wreck in the wind, but he just kept flying it all morning.  Then he said he was wrapping it up, and he sure did wrap it up, he nailed a power line on his last approach. I felt so bad for him, after all that flying in the wind and making it look easy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJs-K4HvyjY

I saw he just put another one out showing how to start a gas engine. Same plane, all back together, he said. I'll have to look for the video. He's showing how with the Syssa gas engine on this plane.   COF
