Ahhh - all has been revealed! Thank you sir.

Hey that's a pretty decent manual. Wonder why it's not available from the SAP site?

Hey wattzzzup...

Just got a email that the 78" gas version of EF extra is instock!!!...

(Funny how that works....as I have heard very conflicting delivery dates...I
Guess when you HEAR the news from the OWNER,,,, it is probly more accurate than the employees)

Either way, I had money burning a hole in my pocket...

Picked up a plane and a radial engine....Looks like the 78" will have to wait...

I asked the wife if I could get the EF78" and she said
"How could you even ask that!"....we don't have any savings and the credit card isn't paid off yet"

I guess I forgot to mention the other part about buying the OTher plane and engine...[][X(]

That's where the confusion came from - I didn't get the manual with my order back in October 09 & didn't think there was one. (Maybe it wasn't available then?)

Anyone.... What was the last number shipped? I am #424. I have the ES30 pipe already but no motor yet. My plan is to install the piped motor in a Black Magic VF3 replacing an OS160. Results will follow.....

Where would be the best place to mount it closer to the ignition or receiver, or does it really matter ?

My IBE is located very close to the ignition module (approx 3 inches) and right next to a voltage regulator (about 1/2 inch) and it has absolutely no ill effects with a 2.4 GHz FASST receiver, which is about 6-7 inches away.

Sweet!

I'm putting in my new receiver tonight and just wanted to make sure I had it in a good place. I pretty much had the lay out where I wanted it so its going to be great!

I love new, new engine, new planes , new radios!!

Me too, I am getting my new 78 inch EF Extra next week. On this one, even my wife thinks it is cool. I spoke to Todd Syssa this week, and he is waiting to ship my ES pipe and exhaust manifold pending on how it fits on his personal EF Extra. I have SolidWorks and can CNC anything I can think of, but would rather not re-invent the wheel on this one. I am planning on putting the IBEC and ignition way up front, with the JR 921 Rx aft to minimize EMI/RFI.

Someone else I know is getting the same plane and same or similar set up? hmmm....

I'm putting the IBEC about where the instrument panel would be, that should keep it away from the ignition. My Optima 9 receiver is mounted just inside the rear windows for the Decathlon, and the antenna wires will be farther back.

Engine timing Mishap report straight from Todd:

The key that was in your engine was tested for hardness and it was way below what the key we use is supposed to be. Yours and Steve's keys were the same.

We buy keys roughly 300 at a time and its possible some keys were in that lot that were not the hardened alloy steel we use. The vendor supplies all kinds of woodruff keys, hardened and unhardened of various alloys. The alloy we use is an 8XXX alloy and is hardened steel...clearly the one we took out of your engine was not. Your engine has a new crankshaft and bearings just to be on the safe side.

Thanks Todd for making this right.

Rob

OK, nice to know, but this begs the question of should I send mine back now, before I am hovering low and it shears a key on my new, and very expensive EF Extra??

That's a fair question and best answered by Todd, But I would remind everyone that hovering your plane on a NEW engine is asking for trouble. The manual provides certain restrictions that should be followed for the first gallon. One is no hovering.
Bottom line, I'll follow th guidelines, keep much altitude and be ready for anything the first gallon. I'd bet that if you have an out of spec key you'll know after a few ground runs/flights. Mine failed after 3 flights and one ground run.

What say you Steve?

Simple question...Why use a straight crank with a key, (that might shear) when a tapered crank with no key works better ??
