RE: NEW DLE30!
Hey guys, I ran my new rear carb dle-30 today for the first time today. Ran really well and held a really low idle. I was kinda concerned though, there seemed to be alot of vibration and I know I balanced my prop. Im using a xoar 18x8 prop, the white one. Well after shutting the engine down and inspecting everything I noticed that some of the white paint was gone on the prop, where my chicken stick was rubbing from starting it. So im pretty sure thats the reason why I had some vibration. In my opinion a unbalanced prop thats of just a hair will make a difference. Anyway, all in all the lil engine seems to be a power house and will make a good combo for my new hangar 9 taylorcraft.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Yea im affraid your rite, thats the second prop that has done that. Just called valley view and ordered another prop, I whent with a regular beechwood prop though. Man guys im really pumped up about this engine, its my third dle engine and they havent let me down yet. This one is my first gas engine this small and its just like the 55's, it starts good, holds a good idle and its light weight. I just checked that white xoar prop that I had used and its of balance, not real bad but it is of.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I have seen a few guys at the field use those soft yet sturdy paint rollers for starting the bigger engines. It bet it will save the paint on your xoars. Plus, your hand doesnt have to become a statistic by accident. I think I will give it a try on my next gasser. Just my .02

I have no use for a electric starter....they mess up the spinner...the compression makes them slip. My DLE30cc with a Frank boman ring cranks harder now. Capt,n

Yea not sure if I could put a starter on my new tru turn spinner, before long they start getting that ring around the cone and it looks crazy. Its not that im scared its just ive been bit a few times lol. That paint roller idea really dont sound to bad as soft as they are it shouldnt ruin the paint.

Crankin those Gas engines is like Golf, as long as you follow thru with your stroke of the hand and out of the way, its almost impossible to get bit! You just can't get in a hurry. I like the feel of knowing what the compression feels like as your cranking it over. But again, its all a flyers choice and thats whats so great about our hobby, by gosh, as long as safety is followed, you can do anything you want to do! Fly on Brothers!

RE: NEW DLE30!
which postion is best for a lefty ?12 or 2.?I know its easier to flip it by hand and I understand how a starter screws a expensive tru turn spinner but I like having my hand and all my fingers.I worked in hospital over 30 years and saw several examples of hand starting gone bad.admittedly your crazy starting a 4 strker barehanded thet have a nasty kickback.I think I will use a stick for the time being.I cant say I like a starter eitherand while I used it alot in earlier years I got my engines mostly satios to start with very few cranks.when you go from a 14 or 16 prop to a 18 and 20 inch it can be intimidating at first. what has always scared me is when modellers hover over the prop while its starting.I guess all I am saying I error on the side of safety.thats just me and I am not trying to get anyone mad.now what were we talking about lol.yeah 12 or 2?

RE: NEW DLE30!
I just installed the VVRC single bolt adapter. It is a piece of cake, especially with an impact wrench. I held the shaft with my hand and with a 11mm deep well socket on my Milwaukee impact wrench, it spun off easily. I cut the shaft nut on my lathe so it is square, no problem!

RE: NEW DLE30!
I just ordered a 30 for my KMP Sea Fury (had an O.S. 1.60 on it) and it sounds like the Bowman ring makes a considerable difference in the 30. Does anyone have a number or website for Frank Bowman? Also, can the ring be swapped by hand, or do you need ring pliers? I may have a pair hiding somewhere.

Frank can be reached at [email protected] You can use your fingers. Just note the original way the ring fits around the pin in the ring grove before you take it off. Also run the new ring around the ring grove to make sure there is no binding. Frank also includes directions with the ring.
