Don't use a gun....a solder iron such as a Weller 40-80watt will do the job most efficiently.

<hr />Most people do not know how to maitain the tip on some Gun type irons. Most the time the nut where you tighten the tip in place is loose just enough for a good connection. Your talking very low voltage here. Also just take & file the tip and where it connects the gun so it is bright & shinny. Re-tin the end & make sure first the nuts are tight. Hold with vise grips and use w wrench...so as not to damage anything. Weller 8200 100/140 dual heat capt,n

The old Weller gun doesn't have enough copper mass in the tip

RE: NEW DLE30!
Yes - I know! Back about 100 pages or so, it was stated CLEARLY that the DLE Ignition module was rated only to 6V MAX!! Not 6.1V but 6V!! But I keep reading of guys using the A123 battery to drive them. Like a good boy I have been using a NiMH 4.8V pack, but I'm getting tired of having to recharge it before every days flying and it is pretty well used up at the end of the day. Charging the night before - it is still down a little the next AM. Now I don't mind the charging as much as having to do it when I'm in a rush to get out! This means charging in the car on the way there etc. Also looking at using an 2300 MaH A123 for the RCVR/servo setup. Now don't yell at me - what is the current party line??

RE: NEW DLE30!
We have been having excellent success with these units that reduce the voltage from A123 to approx 5.4 on a fresh A123 down to 4.8 on a need to be topped off A123. They are designed to be used with A123's voltage curve.
Got quite a few out there....work great, reasonably priced.

If you see the heat shrink off you will see diodes to reduce the voltage. Yup U betcha

RE: NEW DLE30!
You are correct Jody. Those voltage I quoted above are what we see with an inline voltage pickup from an running ignition. Sure beats having to wait for my old NIMH to top off... I recharge the A123 and it is full ready, waiting until my next outing.....makes a difference when choosing from more than one airplane.

Hi Richard D
I have been admiring your single bolt prop hub adapter mentions in an a previous post(#3618).
Is 3/4†the only length or do you have access to longer or shorter spacers?
Are they balanced?

RE: NEW DLE30!
Yes, sorry. 3/4 is the only length. Cant get much shorter and get a good cut on the lathe.....get too long and you put undue pressure on the bearings. These hubs have been field tested and work perfectly.
They are 6061 T-6 aluminum and cut on a lathe.....no problem with balancing...but not specifically balanced. I think cutting on the lathe takes care of that. The metric bolts that go in your existing hole are grade 12 in metric, equal to grade 8 in US bolts. The 8mm bolt is also of the same grade and tapped for spinner nut.
Thanks,
R

RE: NEW DLE30!
Hi Guys, I started to have a little issue with my DLE30 this morning.
Here is a short 2 minute flight from this morning.
The prop is a 20x6 Xoar. Motor is at flight # 8. Fuel/oil is 32/1
I started to have a problem with engine. It was miss firing or cutting out. You can here it in this video.
I removed the optical kill switch before this flight, because it was turning on and off on its own.
Not sure if it s fuel delivery, spark plug or ignition.
Any ideas ????

I have had similar problem with the ignition on my DLE 50. You can lower the gap on the plug to try it and if the miss will go away is just ignition getting “weakerâ€.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Anyoneknow where you can buy these Servo Connector Clips. Aeroworks have them at a little more than a buck apiece which I think is obscene! At a cost of barely a penny each someone must have them in bulk? I got a couple with the new module for my DLE and I like them!

That is the typical rip-off price for anythingRC Hobby related. Which is B.S.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I've used both as well as masking tape and duct tape and all are no good over the long run except the dental floss. But you have to cut it off each time and then fiddle with threading it through the wires. When you've got a bunch to do it is too tedious - although I've done it that way for years.
But these clips are really neat - easy and quick to use and very positive. Cummon - you'd spend a fortune on any engine do-dad so 35cents isn't too bad. 30 cents is for the idea and 5 cents is the cost. My buddy went out and spent a fortune on two gas motors and then complained like hell at the club raising dues $10.00 because we now have two fields and he only flies at one of them!! We RC hobbyists are known as the cheapest bunch around - and we all know it. Electical tape indeed !!!!
