Default prop selection opinions please

Hi guys.

I am running a G 62 on a 97in. Gee Bee Y and am using a 24/8 Zinger. Plane flies great, lots of power and plenty of speed. However, it is noisy! I need to go to a 3bl. prop, probably a Mejzlik...what size would you suggest. 22/10, 22/12, 23/10?

Cheers, Dave.

21-12 narrowblade carbonprop should suit the G-62. That´s more or less the standard prop on G-62´s in europe..:-)

With a 3 bladed 22x10 you won't get over 4800 rpm, IMHO, that's what I got with a MT57 which will get about 200 more rpm than a G-62 on most props.

I would say you should try a NX23x8 prop, or a Xoar 23A for best performance, the NX really sounds nice, not quit a rip, kind of snarly. If you are willing to lose a little performance you might like the TBM 23x8 it will be slightly quieter than the other two, but I think it will have a little more speed, which might be a plus to you with a scale airplane.

My experience with these props comes from a MT62 which is a Chinese copy of the G-62, the parts are interchangeable.

Wow Rich, the 3 blade really loaded the engine down. Which brand was it?

Biela 3 bladed CF. It flew my WH Ultimate Bipe but just had enough to take off. Once it got going it was a little better, but not much. It almost cost me the plane, I put it in a inverted flat-spin, I finally got out of it at about 15 feet, never flew with it on there again!

Have you thought of a better muffler or are you sure it's the prop ripping?

My G-62 does 6000 rpm with a narrow Engel Supersilence 21x12 carbon 3-blade prop. A better muffler would provide 5-600 more I guess. This is about the same as a DA 50 on a krumscheid can.
A Mejzlik, having slightly broader blades, will spin a bit slower. My engine did 5200 on a 22x12 3-blade, which is what many people use on the GT-80.
