I think soldering is the best method. You should use use solder designed for sheet metal repair and not electrical connections. I soldered a brass nipple onto the carb diaphragm vent hole with lead free silver solder, and the joint looked good, but it broke while wiggling fuel tubing on it. I redid it with using a solder containing lead and tin, and it's incredibly strong.

Mine came off while I was flying, I was not happy with the quality. Had to make an off field landing.
We drilled and tapped the center and put a bolt in it.
It looks like they just hit the end a couple times with a hammer so it mushes up enough to hold it on there.
It works good for about the first year, but not much longer.
