DLE 111 HOLE IN HEAD.
I BOUGHT A 111 AT GIANT SCALE FLY IN FROM A DEALER. WHO??? I DON'T KNOW. MISTAKE #1.
ONE CYLINDER HAS A HOLE IN THE HEAD, DUE TO BAD CASTING DURING MANUFACTURING.
DLE METAL IS JUNK!!
I also have a DA100, the dle is more powerfull. even with a hole in the head spitting black junk all over the inside of my airframe.
DLE METAL IS JUNK
I was so proud to have saved some cash.

You get what you pay for.

?What about longivity?

RE: DLE 111 HOLE IN HEAD.
If the hole is in the combustion chamber, try plugging it with some type of automotive cement. JB Weld or Belzona come to mind. PLan B would be to take to a good welding shop with an aluminum welder. They should be able to run a bead over the hole for $20-$40. One of our members had a thin sheet metal muffler welded for $30. A good welder should be able to weld the heavier metal in the head.

With the quality problems of cheapies the high end or as you call them over and over and over the "bling-bling"brands don't need to do anything but keep on keeping on.
And I own both.

P.S. You can buy a new cylinder head for around $60 from Jody at Valley View.

RE: DLE 111 HOLE IN HEAD.
You didn't look at it when you bought it?? I think most people would see a hole in the jug when looking at the engine.
Buying a new jug from Jody for 60 bucks is still cheaper than buying a DA.

RE: DLE 111 HOLE IN HEAD.
The hole developed after running it, I was told to keep breaking it in and the hole would plug up with carbon.
Well inside a flake or piece that was in the hole came loose and took out the piston and ring.
Total cost from TBM 142 plus shipping to repair with parts and labor, cost 30 to ship to them, probally the same to get it back.
I now got 940 in it. Soon i'll have as much invested as a new DA, but still have aJUNK METALengine. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

Jake, You and I actually agree on something. That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time and I'd sure like to know where it generated
BTW, JB Kwik would have worked better than JB Weld for the hole patch. It would remain sealed and tight for near forever. That 142 plus for a jug change tells me that someone saw this guy comin'... They could have just sold him a jug and told him to R&R the thing by working with the 4 screws

No more than a hole in the head !
Who gave that verdict?
I agree with Jake, contact Jody at Valleyview. He's sure to help you out and will probably cost less than most out there!

Steve240,
Just phone me for part of that DLE..... I get calls everyday from people that bought DLE's from vendors that sell and don't support. I'm so used to it by now, that I don't even get upset anymore.
DLE are junk when you buy from a vendor that is junk!!!!

BTW, the high end manufacturers make mistakes too. Most of you never see them because you don't take engines apart. Ever see cylinders with plating voids inside new cylinders? How about port positioning waaay off? What about reeds that don't seat? I see it all the time in the high end products.

Having no money as a youth, I learned to improvise and to speak with manufacturers/distributors, etc. For crying out loud, order another cylinder head. It can't cost that much.

RE: DLE 111 HOLE IN HEAD.
Bad castings happen .. just like ...t happens
A few years ago I returned a 3W to the supplier due to a small hole that appeared in the crank case. A new replacement was sent to me. Yes, the QC might be less in China than in Germany, but there will always be a risk involved with any manufactured goods. People like to bash the Chinese as inferior manufacturers but don't seem to know that advanced metal work was being done there when the Europeans were still chasing each other with sticks and stones. Times are changing.....

This is simply because of the base cost of an effective QC regime, divided per unit manufactured. A company making 10,000 units per month is much more likely to be able to afford an effective QC function than a company making 500 units.

I have to jump in here and say i completely agree 100% on this statement! HAHA....keep her running until the hole fills up with carbon......she'll be fine!
Can't remember who you bought it from?
No Reciept?
Wants warranty to fix it?
I can almost guarantee this was a back door sale from a defect engine dumpster some where overseas. Nothing wrong with the DLE....they are really good running motors. So this sounds like an EBAY special to me.

Yeah because Amsoil 100:1 turns into JBWeld inside the engine. It's a chemical process.
