Default G38 tuning help

I bought a second hand extra 260 with a g38 in it and I finally got it to run yesterday after a few issues. It idles fine and revs nicely up until half throttle, after half throttle it acts starved and dies. I am new to gas engines and have limited experience with glow engines. It would make sense that the high speed needle needs adjusting. Do i need to lean it out or richen it up??

Thanks,
Zach (the gas newbie!)

That's probably all you need to do. The high speed needle is the one farthest away from the cylinder. About 1 1/2 turns is usually a good starting point.

Seems like my old G38 only needed the HI-SPEED needle open about 1/4 turn. Some carbs was made like this so you could not lean them out too much????

Richen it up. If it won't richen up, rebuild the carb. The diaphragms get stiff after a while, and then won't work properly. It might also have a dirty filter screen inside the carb.

Had the same problem, bent the idle lever up VERY slightly, now idles and acclerates nicely.
