The supplier for the Walmart oil changes every now and then but sometimes it is Pennzoil.

Whatever Walmart's latest supplier is selling will work at 40:1. I have too many planes to put very much time on any one plane. They sort of followed me home when I wasn't looking. I just go out on Sunday and take whichever one is up in the rotation. Had two gassers given to me then ran into deals/trades on some more. Now I have 7 or 8 and spend more time in maintenance than flying.

After a ton of hours researching and growing up on a farm playing with air cooled 2 strokes my whole life (yes it's fully debatable) I've concluded the following:

Best synthetic oils (for air cooled 2 stroke engines; needs to meet and/or exceed API-TC rating) usually run @ 40-50:1:
Stihl Ultra (called Ultra HP in the USA)
Belray H1R (much less carbon build-up than MC1)
Royal Purple
Redline Racing

Really good oils, but not as highly regarded for cleanliness of burning nor the problems caused if run 100:1:
Amsoil Sabre
Amsoil Dominator

Other good oils that aren't reviewed much:
Mobil MX2T
Opti-2 (semi synthetic)
Echo
YamaLube

Good dino oils (for break-in generally):
Any high quality @ 30-32:1 for the first 4-5 gallons. Penzoil air cooled oil is really popular.

I don't recommend Lawnboy ashless for it's accelerated "break-in" properties, having grown up with engines all my life. I also don't agree with full synthetic break-in either, as you'll never get your ring to seat properly and be missing out on performance down the road.

Hope this helps! Please remember this is only my opinion!

Is your "opinion" from your actual use of all these oils or from a "ton of hours" of research?

Thanks

That's a fairly decent opinion to boot and one that I tend to agree with, with the exception being that a quality synthetic oil can be used from day one in your engine, it's just that the break-in process will take a while longer to complete.

I'm sure he has done some real world durability testing by beating the daylights out of some engines.

I don't think our engines have work as hard as those in the hands of a farmboy, any of the oils listed would be fine for our use IMO.

Whatever you choose, just don't run anything 100:1 EVER!

What about 80:1? I had the guy at my local hobby shop tell me to run 80:1 synthetic after my break in....just me or does that seem high?

What's wrong with running 32:1 Walmart oil?

IMO folks who run those very high ratios are simply too lazy to wipe a few specks of exhaust goo from the underside of their models caused by long term protection of their engines by using a 32-40:1 ratio mix.

I went to the Auto Parts yesterday and bought all the Penzoil air cooled two stroke oil (8 oz) they had on the shelf.
That's funny. I did the exact same thing! Got the little basket and emptied the shelf. ZTold the clerk it was time to re-order.

I used Lawnboy for twenty years and never had any trouble.

Don't use it anymore.
I don't know why but that is just funny a heck..

I got the Lawnboy real cheap where a discount store was going out of business. I never bought any more because who in the world is Lawnboy? They went out of business in the mid 80's.

Now days, the Lawnboy oil brand belongs to Toro Lawnmower Company and is packaged by Citgo oil company.

I now use Pennzoil.
