Thanks Jim.   I have gone to the links you provided.  Maybe I will post an add.  I did order my DLE 20cc today and should have it by Friday or Saturday.  Can't wait, my first step in to gassers!

Are any different sizes of DLE's coming out anytime soon, such as a 24 or a 15cc?

goffman -

I love the DLE's (I own a DLE20 and DLE30 (NIB)), but, FYI, Aerovate has both 15cc and a 26cc gassers. Distributed by KMP. I just saw these engines at the WRAM tradeshow last weekend in Westchester, NY, and they DO look very nice. They're supposed to be better QA'd and supported versions of RCGF's. There are vids on U-tube. Here's a short RC Universe thread on the 15cc, which has a long post by the distributor: http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=48691. An interesting note - these engines come with the CM6 plug.

15cc gassers. Do I hear somebody saying, "Bye-bye, nitro..."?

I had a RCGF 20 and it was nice, well made, but very anemic compared to the DLE-20, and was heavier. The 15cc in their product line weighs the same as the DLE-20.

I was looking at the pictures of the RCGF 20 on Hobby King and comparing with my DLE 20 and you can see that the ports are not as large and therefore the RCGF doesn't have as much top end power.

Actually, comparing specs of both 20's:

Aerovate 20cc - 31.8oz, 2.2hp at 9,800rpm, $234 at KMP.CA
DLE 20cc - 28.9oz, 2.5hp at 9,000rpm, $259 at TH (not including discounts)

I flew my dle 20 for the second time today and im having trouble tuning it. idles good and when i get the plane in the air when i transition from 1/2 to full throttle it spits and sputters and act like it wants to die. i bring it in and adjust and take off again. and still the same thing did it abt 4 times and no change in the way it ran. need some assistance and guidance. thanks

i did get to full throttle once or twice and when i pull into verticle it slows and sputters too...

Jim, thanks for the thread by Bob for "newbies to gasoline engines".  It was a great read and I am sure that I will be re-reading parts of it a number of times.  It is certainly is very well organized and well written.   Honestly speaking, it is also a bit intimidating to a newbie like me!

I have a general gasser question. Since the gas fuel line in the tank is not very flexible (less than nitro tubing), how do we keep our engine from stalling in a ling down-line, when the tank is less than full? Or is that why you're supposed to cut the throttle in a down-line, so that it's not sucking much gas? (I assumed it was to reduce stress on the plane on pull-out). Thanks.

How about black neoprene tubing? How does it stand up over time? It is very flexible.

That is the standard tubing included in all Hayes tanks. I have had no problems with the neoprene, but others have said it has degraded rather quickly. I would have to think that the pure rubber neoprene is superior to tygon for longevity and flexibility.

BTW, those Poulan filter/clunks are available at Sears I see. Will they pick up the fuel if it is only half covered with fuel?

Yes and they will not suck an air bubble.

The film strength of the gasoline within the filter medium brevents sucking air until all the gasoline is gone.
