Microdon2,

I know they recommend the 30 but some of the 12 to 14# planes the 20's have been flying on around OKC are having plenty of power. I don't want it to be a hotrod but just cruise around. I'll try it and if it is barely a go, I can always change it to a 30. The 20 fits in the cowl sooo good....
Thanks,

Jody,

Back on Nov 13, mpascual noted two new designs of mufflers for the DLE20.
You mentioned they'd be available around the end of December.

Deal fall through?
Nothing about them on VVRC' web sites.

On my Waco I'm thinking of trying something like our Waco brother did on his complete re-do of a Waco arf. I think I can make it work on this new arf with some thinking.
Thanks,

some updates here for you from the staus of the Vortex

To the tuning issues high idel and stuff, i run Vess, Xoar and Mejhlik Propellers, never had good results with APC Topflite (epoxy sticks) or Master Airsrew, best results i have with Vess and the Mejhlik propps. Cowling pressure due to too smal openings will make it troublesome just as well. The DLE 30 i have had trouble with the needle seat hight from the factory and after i corrected it adjusting it that Engine runs perfect now.

Ran out of good sky and time, but retuned on the ground... with the cowl on ...and it is good. Transistions and minmum gurgle. and comes down to idle quickly now. Now if the rains would stay away..I'll fly her.

Thanks,

Thanks for the feedback.  Again, your Seagall AT-6 75 really does look great.  I am also glad to hear that you have had a couple of good experiences with a standard engine mount with your DLE 20.  I did pick up the recommended Dubro anti-vibration mount #688.  My first time so I'm going by the book, but it's nice to know I've got options.

Microdon2, We have 14# planes flying with DLE 20's and they have plenty of extra power. One is a Spitfire. From making a low pass over the field he can go vertical for quite a while. If my Waco will perform that way, I'll be extremely happy with it. The engine fits inside the cowl with lots of room left and not as much cutting of the cowl.

I have a DLE 20 that I have not run yet. It looks to have a 12.5mm venturi ( approx) and I was wondering if the newer ignition, and the attempt to obatain a lower idle, really has to do with the trade off of a better top end with the larger venturi and high idle? The ignition curve on the V4 ignition allows you to get a better top end and still get a lower idle with the larger 12 mm venturi? You could probably run a 7.9 or 7.14mm Walbro and get a bit lower top end but a more stable lower idle??

Does that make sense.

The Venturi in the DLE-20 is closer to 5/16" or a number 20 or 7.93mm

Yes, the lighter the prop load the more mid range burble you will notice, it should be able to be tuned out from about 1/3rd throttle up.

aa2dd,

No one is slamming the DLE20 that I know of and questions like yours are good and expected. The smaller a gas engine gets the more finicky they can be and yes, sometimes sensitive to carb adjustments. Although I don't find the 20 to be overly sensitive I do think that some applications with certain prop loads may take a little more time and fiddling to figure out the best settings but this can be true of many combinations. As far as the timing thing goes, if on your approach the engine RPM is coming down to 2500 or less, the timing will not be holding the RPM up. As I said earlier, I do prefer the standard Rcexl ignition module on the DLE20 and 30 but it does make carb needle settings more critical and no one can do it for you, meaning I can't run it on my bench and adjust it to idle at 1600 then ship it to you and it be the same, your fuel/oil mix and different ambient conditions will be different enough that it would need adjusting.
You are so kind.

Interesting, I only have 10 posts on the previous page, the last one is #3235, there should be 25 I think.

Thanks again for the personal assistance Jim, we're very fortunate here in this forum to have a moderator that cares the way you do.

Try viewing this thread's "Gallery". About mid way, links to some images are broken.
About the same time as RCU did another change in their servers and our new avatars got reset.

One such msg is by mpascual on November 13th about two new style mufflers for the DLE20cc;
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10133272
Note how the links no longer show those mufflers.

By the way, whatever happened to VVRC carrying those new style mufflers?

Ran my DLE 20 for the first time today. Best with electric starter first time, then hand flipped 2nd, 3rd and 4th tank. 2hrs run time at 4500rpm's with throttle variations every few minues to keep the plug clean. Runing 17 X 6 APC with aluminum spinner; ended break-in run with 8450-8650 max. The engine ran fine, transition not as quick as I prefer but I havn't fine tuned it yet. The heavier APC prop and aluminum spinner may keep transition speed down with this size prop, but 8500 rpm on the ground is a pretty good start. It's mounted in a recycled The world models 60 size extra 300 with stock muffler. I may go with the pits eventually but this plane is my smallest, least flown model. Anyone who has the pitts muffler see much benefits in RPM? (like $80.00worth) I know it's a little quieter.

Hi Jody
Have the same issues with missing stuff, but funny part is ONLY on the computer i use most, all others i have get all the posts, missing my own reply here on this PC all others dont have the trouble. Recently i had a bunch of Virus/Malware attacs here on RCU, i think my anti virus blocked the cookie for that page or so, why this one not and the others ? Yes, funny, I may figure this out by deleting the cookies.
have a great one

My son made this short video of the maiden flight of my GP Extra 300 w/DLE 20 today.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pndGP...el_video_title

It had that fast idle on landing, and then you will hear it just suddenly drop several hundred RPM, followed by a little "commentary" on the ignition. Running a little rich, so going to spend a little time tomorrow tuning it better.
