Just checked out the demo on the Troy Built Models site. Looks like a good product, especially if you don't run WOT alot.

SpinnerRow - you can STILL run WOT, but you just might not scare all the birds.

Hi there,

Has anyone come up with a way to make the stock muffler quieter ? I also heard that the wrap around mufflers kill some of the power on the DLE 20. True or not ? I would like to use a wrap around pitts style on my plane, but NOT if they pull down the power and are actually LOUDER than the stock muffler.............[&o] Comments ?

Don
I use this http://www.valleyviewrc.com/estore/p...as-engine.html so far, so good....

In addition to the stock muffler, I have three aftermarket mufflers for my DLE 20s. It has been my experience that the Jtech Standard sized wrap around Pitts muffler produces about the same power as the stock muffler. The Jtech compact wrap around Pitts takes about 300RPM off the top. The VVRC profile muffler is about the same power as the stock muffler - and just as loud.

THe Jtech standard size Pitts muffler knocks the sound down quite a bit and takes some of the high frequency tinniness out of the exhaust note. The DLE 20 actually sounds like a much bigger motor than it is on the JTech standard. The Jtech compact wrap around Pitts is louder than the standard but not as loud as the stock muffler/noise diverter.

Next I want to try VVRC's wrap around Pitts. The price is certainly right on that muffler.

Where's the fun in that then?

Here is one I just had manufactured and stocked. It has a larger chamber than the stock muffler and also points down for profile mounted engines at 90 degrees mount.

I see an increase in top end. Getting 8800 hot on Xoar 17x6. It took a bit of re-tuning the engine, compared to stock muffler top end was real lean bottom end too.

Still makes noise like a 20cc but the tone is different....not bad on half throttle and below...Weighs a half ounce more than stock DLE20 muffler.

Hi Richard,

How about showing us a picture of the new DLE 20 muffler, or is it shown on your web site.

Tower just told me that they will be replacing my blown up DLE 20 (crank pin broke).

As a refresher, a year and two weeks after I bought it, my DLE 20 blew up in my P-51 a few weeks ago. I packaged it up and sent it to Tower. They just told me that they are replacing the whole engine. Woohooo! Good thing I bought it from Tower as the warranty from everywhere else is 1 year!

Sweet, just got mine today from them!!

I know this has been stated, but I am a little confused on Prop size for the TF P51. Does a 16x7 fit it OK?

I was using an APC 15x10 but it was getting a bit too many RPMs. I think the 16x7 (especially if it is an APC) is going to be a bit small. Go with a 16x8 perhaps. If you want speed, go with a MAS 15x10.

I use a 16x8 APC on my 70" GP Revolver and get excellent speed and vertical.

I bought an APC 14x13 and a 14x14 to try on my P-51 but will break the new motor in with a MAS 15x10. Weather is very unpredictable here in north Texas this time of year. This past weekend was mid 70s and howling winds (25-30). I'm hoping the weather will cooperate this weekend so that I can put some break in time on the new motor.

I miss my Revolver. []

As much as I hate to spend the kind of money that 3DHS wants for their Velox, I think that is what I'm going to get for this new engine. It just seems the more I spend on a plane, the shorter its lifespan is. []

Guys, I recently bought a DLE 20 from Tower Hobbies, (my favorite online hobby shop), and after the first test run, it started surging and leaning out and just not working right.  Well, I tried every trick I know, needle adjustments, new spark plug, replacing the fuel system, all to no avail.  I finally took the engine off the plane and started looking for loose screws.  Well wouldn't you know, the carb cover plate had two screws loose and the carb was sucking in air around those screws.  I tightened up all the screws and replaced the engine.  It started right up and ran like a charm.  Lesson was, check all screws on a new engine and make sure they are nice and tight.

I would add: open up the engine and the carb and check for any metal scrapes. Sometimes the engine wouldn't start and also got a couple of deadsticks. I was pulling my hair out until I discovered the cause [:@]

Yes, I should have mentioned that I did clean out the carb - the screen had some large pieces of dirt and one metal shaving in it!

Please don't shoot me here but I have looked and can't find where anyone has said if one motor is better than the other. Motors in question are DLE 20 ( 2.5hp) or CRRC-PRO GF26I (2.4hp) I just bought a new RC Guys Cessna 150 and just don't know which motor to put in it. Help me out here for those that have had experience with these motors, which one is the favorite.
