Gas carbs have a diaphragm pump. For the most part you don't have to worry about fuel delivery.

Overkill is in the eye of the beholder!
My reply to airborne2.4 was based on the fact that overpowering is fine for experienced fliers, NOT so for fliers still learning.
Many of us forget how it was when we first started out.

Overpowering a model for someone new, could result in them hating your recomendation (you & the product),
and possibly dropping out of the hobby.

airborne2.4 has other upcoming major expenses, and doesn't need bad advise regarding RC.

Thanks for looking out for me a1pcfixer, I appreciate all your advise. Hopefully I'll get my JBA 15cc in the air this weekend

I had trouble drawing fuel from fuel tank on CG with my profile.(12 inches away) Would give trouble at half tank.....

When I cleaned the carb screen the problem went away. It had some foreign matter...could not tell if it was from me or factory.

I like to use at least a 1650ma 4.8V NMh battery. they seem to last me at least 8 flights.

Hey Richard - sounds good! I haven't had a chance to fly my plane with the new A123 yet. The weather up here just won't co-operate!! I have the JR lead and the JR balance tap setup and I presume I can balance/charge from either lead?

Tower has them in stock now it looks like. Free shipping and if you are a member of their super saver club, the price is $219. Mine should be here shortly and I plan to try it with a tuned pipe.

Opinion: Would a 16x8 3-blade prop be too much for the DLE 20cc?

Not sure, so far I am so impressed with the power I might try a Vess 18-6, which is really a 30cc prop, but since I have one, what the heck?

Shouldn't be, as the prop range for this DLE20cc is 16-18" range.

Just remember that when you add a blade, you lose a bit of thrust.
A 17x8 3-blade might be better and put this engine into it's power band.

Some food for thought, regarding fuel tanks, clunk line, and clunks.

With the increased usage of these smaller gassers, we come to a couple issues
regarding the fuel system. Small gassers only need small fuels tanks, say 8-10 oz sizes.

Standard Tygon fuel line (1/8" I.D.x 1/4" O.D.) works fine in larger fuel tanks as they're
longer and a chunk of long std Tygon bends fine in such bigger tanks. Not so good in
smaller/shorter tanks.

Well, I found some that'll be great in 8-10 oz fuel tanks. It's called Oregon, and just
like Tygon, they're both made of vinyl tubing designed for gas or oil usage.

In the photo showing all 3;

A=Oregon [part #07-257] 1/8" I.D. x 3/16" O.D. [wall thickness=.035"]

B=Oregon [part #07-266] .094" I.D. x .203" O.D. [wall thickness=.050"]

C=std Tygon 1/8" I.D. x 1/4" O.D. [wall thickness=.060]

Fuel line A you probably should NOT try, as I feel it's wall thickness makes it far too flimsy
for our use. It's only shown for comparison. It's primary uses are in chainsaws, weedeaters,
hedge trimmers, etc.

Fuel line C [std 1/8" Tygon] is fine outside the fuel tank.

Fuel line B Oregon part #07-266 is what we need inside the fuel tank, connected to the clunk.
This one is far more flexable than std Tygon, and combined with the heavier clunk in the second photo,
will do a superb job!

The second photo is of a Poulan clunk/filter part # 530095646. It's heavier than most
clunks used for glow engines.

More flexable fuel line inside the fuel tank, plus a heavier clunk!

Both parts are available at many small engine repair shops, or online as well.

Just remember to change the clunk line portion at the start of each flying season!

Near the bottom of my post...."Both parts are available at many small engine repair shops, or online as well."

Myself, I get it at a local Ace hardware store that does small engine repairs.
Snatched up 10' of it!

Do a Google search on - Oregon 07-266 fuel line

G`Day
Setting up my batteries for the Elec. Ignition and RX for the DLE 20cc, using the Hobbico HydriMax 2000 NiMH batteries x2 , is there a way of charging two batteries at once or do they have to be charged separately? if separate does that mean 2 charging switches have to be installed on the plane?

Also what size fuel tank are people using with this engine? Using the DLE 20cc Gas in my P-51 60 size!
Does the fuel tank have to have the 3 fuel line outlets for GAS which come with fuel tanks, or is there such a product for Gas only?

What have you guys done about the choke setup in a closed cowl situation with the DLE20cc?

How many 1N4007 diodes should I put in series to drop the voltage enough for the DLE 20 ignition. Each one should drop the voltage about .6 volts. I'm using a 42% A123 2600mah battery from Valley View and plan to power the plane and the ignition with this one battery.

Since this is my first A123 battery powered plane, I'm not sure what these things come out to at full charge. i guess I should just charge one and see but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was thinking that I would need two at least and maybe three for a 1.2v or 1.8v drop in battery voltage to the ignition.

8 oz tank will be plenty

Two batteries = to charging connections.

You must charge separately but you can do it at the same time with two chargers or some double chargers

dutchy50,

An 8-10 oz tank is plenty.

3 lines is an option, or you can fill via the carb line by inserting a 'T'.

You'll need a stopper designed for gas, for the fuel tank. Dubro sells them.

See my msg earlier about fuel lines, clunks....same page, up a couple msg.

Also; this msg thread is something you REALLY NEED to read......

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8673009]Newbie to Gas General Information ....[/link]

....many of the basics about gas engines are already covered in that thread.
