Nope, but it would be a mistake to buy the 20cc engine instead of the 30cc engine in this instance. Just think, no expensive high nitro fuel to buy for the YS 1.20. Who cares if the engines need to be larger when gas?

I received my DLE 20 today from Tower. I will admit it appears this is a well built engine. I was amazed at the over simplified instructions particularly the break in method and duration. There are a few things I need enlightenment with: The manual refers to mounting the engine with vibration dampers and not rigid. How have you folks done that ? Also the manual adds that mounting in airplane is best method for brake in and to run engine at 4500 rpm for two hours. Have you folks followed that proceedure or have you found a better way?

I plan on installing this into a Nitro models P-47 (70"W.S). This will be my first gasser airplane so if you have any "Rookie" suggestions I sure will pay attention.

Not rigid refers to not mounting on a rigid test stand, and doing runs on that to break-in.

Just get it mounted in your model, test run enough to get the carb mix screws set good on High, Low, and transistion......then go fly it, moderately, no excessive high speed, no excessive idling. Vary it's rpm. Forget that 4500 rpm/2 hrs crap.

LOADS of great info in the following thread;

[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8673009/tm.htm]Newbie to gas information (thread)....[/link]

One VERY important item is the stopper for your fuel tank. Normal glow ones don't get along well with gasoline. Get a stopper designed for gas usage!

Here is the link to the video of the 70 Revolver with the DLE 20cc. Enjoy it. this will be a new era of power plants
for those who want to give up glow. and with the reliabilty and power, and run time. who would'nt.

These are weed wacker based engines, do you break those in?

Played with the 58 inch Removable Wing Slide Proflie (under 7lbs wet) more today, gonna fly tomorrow.

Now a couple more tanks in the driveway working props and the idle is getting better. Still, sometimes pegs at 2100 then go up and down and see 1700 then go up and down and see 2500...it is better than it was last weekend....so hopefully, more fuel through will help. At 1700 it may or may not quit if the idle is held for a length of time.

The JC-17x4E that was spinning between 82 and 8400 on the Saito 125 is now spinning 9400, full hot. That is up 600 from first run which was 8800....some tuning, some break-in, feeling more compression.

Folks, that is 1000 rpm over Saito 125 best tuning with the exact same prop....apples to apples..

Tried a JC Super Prop 16x8 standard gas prop. Got 9100 full hot.

For kicks I let it cool, switched props and put on a JC Super Prop 18x6 Gas prop.....had to open and play with the top end a little.....Wow...Wow....Wowser, 8100 full hot.. This might put us in the 15 lb thrust range but I will wait until I can get to the field and get help with the fish scale.

The 18x6 had great transition, considering it still burbles coming off the low end at this point (getting better) but once you got past the burble....spool up was very good.....the idle was the best, still not locked in steady on a number.

Right now this engine has seen about a third of a gallon of regular pump gas (with ethanol sorry) 32-1 Lawnboy. I am running the new Irridium spark plug by Rcexl as well.

Will put it in the air tomorrow and see how many flights I can get in on it.

Finally got the chance to fly my new DLE20cc & AW PROX260 .60 -.90 size. After correcting a C.G. issue (manual is off by about 3/16" on their recommended C.G.), I could finally enjoy flying this combo.

In doing hovers, I only needed about 30% throttle, and pull-out's were like a rocket!!!
With a 2lb thrust per every 1 pound of plane, this combo is a keeper!

It'll do things my old fingers will never be able to.

Do you really think this little fella' could generate so much thrust ?

15lb's weigh many 30cc airplanes.....

Yes, this engine is way way better than anything else on the market in this size range. 15lb thrust is possible probably around 8200-8300 RPM with a good 18x6.

Thanks for the quick response. Not really looking for 3D, but want it to be fast and smooth.
I would place a DLE 20 in a C. Goldberg Ultimate Bipe in a heartbeat. They are fairly fast with a Glow .90 and should be real sweet with the DLE 20.
I do think that 15 pounds of thrust is possible with the right prop? Thanks Capt,n

What is the width of the muffler? I need to fit it in a quarter scale BUSA J3 Cub and I don't want to cut the heck out of the cowl??

What is the width of the muffler?

[stock DLE20cc muffler]

2.260" tall @ end caps - 3.800" incl exh pipe
1.100" thick out from exh port of eng
2.050" wide @ end caps

There's also the option of a pitts style muffler at Jtec, mentioned a page or two back.

Quick Question guys
I have a Super Skybolt with a RCGF 15cc for power. It's nice but I guess I'm looking for more power
Is the DLE 20 a overkill??
Will the extra weight defeat my purpose?
The skybolt is a 60 size plane
Please give me your opinion

Thanks
Hoss

DLE-20 on 58 inch Slide....JC 18x6 at about 8200...bottom end is getting better, now at half a gallon through.

It is hard to burn a gallon when each 10 minute flight only used 3 ounces of gasoline..

One dead stick on first flight and I richened up the bottom end a tad, ran good till the second dead stick about 7 flights later...forgot to refuel, so no 20 minutes on 6 oz.

Ten minute flights were using 190 to 220 mAh for the ignition and flight depending on how hard I flew it.

You can see the other Slide in the vid on Saito 100, the gasser is certainly a different power curve but it works and once used to it is nice. To me, there is a learning curve when going from glow to electric or gas when it comes to power curves.

BTW I have the throttle linkage setup as discussed in the other thread and am running about 50% expo to tame down the bottom end.

Well, I just got 2 flights in before the sun went down, and as compared to the RCGF 20CC, there is no comparison. On the ground, it turned a Vess 16-6 at 9500 and in the air it is like night and day. It starts easy, idles well, and although I have some fine tuning to do and obvious break-in, all I can say is wow! As you say, it is hard to get a couple of gallons through it, it does not use much fuel. I would say that it is very close to the OS 120AX in performance. Now I cant wait to get the 2nd DLE20 on the OMP Razor Yak profile flying.

I'd consider it way overkill, but it's your choice.
That 15 should be great match as is.

Try a 17x6 Vess or Zoar prop. Those will get this DLE20cc into it's power curve.

I'll need taller L-G for my AW PROX260 (.90 size) in order to have better ground clearance, in order to use any 18x6/8 props.
It's awesome with a Vess 17x6 on it, w/AUW @ 7lb. 2.oz!

DLE sure has a winner with this engine!!!

I have the Xoar and Vess 18-6 as well, it turned the Vess 18-6 at 7700, but I did not fly it. I will try them both tomorrow, since I don't have a 17 incher (yet). I have to say, the 16-6 had huge thrust for a sub 8 pound plane, and I kinda liked the speed.
