RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Just checked Tower - looks like they're giving mixed messages on the EI voltage. Looks like they're saying the old EI's require a voltage regulator for greater than 6v sources, but the newer EI's do not.
- 4.8 - 6V NiMH/NiCd, or 6.6V LiFe or 7.4V LiPo battery for ignition (separate receiver style pack can be used) (LiPo & LiFe requires voltage regulator)
- Ignition Battery: 4.8 min, max as marked on electronic ignition unit. If marked 6V max, BEC required if LiPo battery used. Newer ones may be marked 4.8V to 8.4V.

It appears that new DLE20 engines being sold come with a new version ignition module. The newer version (A-02) is labeled to handle up to 8.4 volts, compared to 6.0 volts on the older version.
Some people have said that the newer version has also gotten rid of the timing curve (step) that the old version had. Can anyone verify that as a matter of fact. I haven't found anything from dlpower.com or dleengines that confirm that has happened.

So this new version of ignition module for a DLE20 doesn't have the issues of the older version and can handle up to 8.4 volts. That's a very nice improvement.

A short while after I asked the above question, it occurred to me to call Tom Denny at Valleyview RC. Tom said the curve (step) has been removed from the new version module.
So this new version of ignition module for a DLE20 doesn't have the issues of the older version and can handle up to 8.4 volts. That's a very nice improvement.

Anyone know what size prop shaft thread the 20cc XYZ has? I'm trying to get a spinner for it. I think it is a different size than the DLE 20cc. Thanks a bunch!

The ARF came with mech. retracts, but I used a set of HobbyKing electric retracts and so far , they've been flawless. About 13 bucks for the pair. By the way, the airplane weighs 8lbs, 10oz. dry. APC 15-10 prop on the VVRC 20. Never tached it.

Hi All
I have a throttle arm extension for the DLE 20 carb . It is a CNC version 16mm across and raises the arm about 12 mm
The only manufacturer ID seems to be RCB.
The hole at the end of the arm is threaded . Does anyone know the thread at the end of the arm is please?

The prop shaft on the XYZ20 was 8mm x .075. The latest batch of engines now are 8mm x 1.00 which is the same as a DLE20 according to Tom Denny of VVRC.

Thanks for the crankshaft tread info Mike. Another carb question - anyone know if the carb can be turned 180 degrees? Or if the throttle arm can be reversed in the carb? (on the DLE or XYZ (walbro). Just wondering, thanks.

I don;t know what you mean "reversing the throttle arm", but the whole carb can be turned 180 degrees on the DLE 20

I have a spare DLE 30 ignition set and wondered if it has the same timing as the new DLE 20 ignition. I understand that it may require a regulated voltage, I am just curious about whether I can replace the DLE20 ignition with my spare DLE30 ignition. Thanks.

Wouldn't be my first choice, but if the price is right I'd sure use it?
The DLE 30 module has the same type "step" timing curve the infamous DLE 20 #4's has/had. The difference, the reason it wasn't so problematic, is that the step occurs at a much higher rpm - something around 42-4400 if my memory is working properly. Bottom line is it works fine. 99.999% of flyers would never suspect anything is different about them.

I am sure this question has been answered somewhere in this long thread, but the crappy search thread feature doesn't help much.
My question is " How does power of the the DLE 20 compare to the YS 120 FZ"?;
I am thinking about replacing my YS 120 With the DLE 20.
Thanks in advance,
Greg
