It is important to note that Catherine has offered to replace Blake’s engine for free. As of this time Blake has not responded to her emails.

RE: Warning: RCGF 45 Owners!
I am considering the offer for a new engine with the updated hub. I am trying to get the email situation sorted out right now.
If I do make a hub I am going to make it myself and I can only make one withe same 4 bolt pattern as a DLE 55. My boss doesn't mind me doing personal things until it looks like I am going into business for myself.

RE: Warning: RCGF 45 Owners!
Am I follow this thread right? If I have the four bolt prop hub ,I have the improved stronger hub.
I'm in the process of buying a plane with this motor in it.
Also How do I know what prop drill jig will work with new hub.
Will my 3w55I US drill jig work
Thanks Jim

Gringopete (BPHobbies)is probablybest person to answer, but as I understand it, the newer (stronger) hub version has 4 screws. I am working with BPHobbies to get the upgraded hub configuration with 4 screws.

I' don't have the plane yet to look at so I'll keep my finger crossed that it's upgraded.
I don't want to fly it with an unsafe hub.
When did they start making motors with the new hubs.

you can tell the difference this way. The old style prop hub is in two pieces held together with four allen head cap screws. The new one is aone piece hub.

Also the new hub has four bolts for the prop verses three for the old style.

I guess there must be "old-old", "old-new", "new-old", and "new-new", because in this foto of the "old" and "new" hubs from earlier in this thread, the "old" hub sure seems to have four bolts to attach the propeller, not including the center bolt. So, the real difference seems to be that the "new" hub is one piece while the "old" hub is two piece. Of course, the significant diference is the "new" hub is machined from billet with nice transition radii, instead of being cast from old scrap aluminum.

Richard

Correct. Its hard to see from the camera angle but the old hub is three bolts. We did receive a shipment of NEW4 bolt one piece hubs for those of you who want to change to the new style.

Actually
There is "OLD OLD" (Lets cal it "Original" but I doubt it is)
That was 4 bolts holding the prop with a plain shaft in the centre - like about 90% of the gas engines in its size.
Then there is "Old Old New"
That was the original "3 prop bolt" hub with a 4th centre bolt.
Then there is "Old new junk"
These were the same as "Old Old New" but less material and poor quality - the focus of the OP on this thread. These were the majority of the hubs provided by the factory
then there is medium oldish newish
Back to a 4 bolt with Plain shaft in the centre (Probably left overs of the "Old Old Originals" but "Hand modified" for that specialty fit. these were provided on a few engines to those distributors that complained about the QC on the hubs way back when.
Then there is latest
Whatever it is. Could be anything.
If you think that is confusing - don't get me started on the other changes they slipped in in the meantime.

Remove the three bolts holding the front prop hub, Now remove the bolt holding the back part on to the crank shaft, Remount the front prop hub with the three bolts, Find a bolt long enough to go all the way down and hit the crank shaft, Run it down untill it hits the crank shaft and tighten, That will pop off the hub from the crank shaft.

RE: Warning: RCGF 45 Owners!
Received from BPHobbies the replacement prop hub(Version 2, per BPHobbies nomenclature). The package contained a "V2" machined billet prop hub with theinstalled magnet, a new prop washer with 4 radial holes and a central larger hole for the extended drive shaft stud, 4 prop bolts, a threaded drive-shaft extended stud to capturethe hub to the drive shaftthat extends through the central hole in the new prop washer and is tapped for a spinner bolt, plus 1 woodruff key.
Relatively easy toremove the old components, including theoriginal drive shaft nutand rear portion of the original hub. Installed the new components without fuss. Did need to purchase a deep-reach 13mm drive socket to install the extended stud to the drive shaft, that needs to fit inside the new prop hub to tighten down the new threaded extended stud. I visitedthe local Harbor Freight storewiththe extended drive shaft stud to test fit deep-reach 13mm sockets, and found onefor $3.50 with proper depth and width.
New hub looks good. I would say the $15 was well spent and BPHobbies were very helpful. I am very satisfied with BPHobbies' service on this.
