Default Length of Time Fuel Stays Fresh

How long will 2 gallons of fuel in a 5 gallon plastic can stay good, if stored in an temperature controlled environment? I have a ZDZ 80 that is running slightly rough (missing every +/-5 seconds at 1/4-1/2 throttle), but noticed the fuel I'm using was mixed on 9/04/09, almost one year ago. I figure it definitely could cause an issue, correct? (I leaned it, but the missing did not improve and made the idle rough and hard to start.)

I figure that any fuel in an opened container should NOT be stored more that a few months. Gas does go bad over the winter.

Get a fresh supply of gas and see if the symptoms go away. Dan.

I have had it around a couple years and it ran OK

It is best in your case to do like the one post says and get some fresh fuel and compare them

Fuel can go bad fast if container is not airtight. Do not buy only the amount you will use up right away. Buy fresh & search for good gas in the first place....some is crap or next to it in west Mich Smooth Landings Capt,n

I never keep fuel more than 3 weeks. I mix 1 1/2 gals at a time, if after 3 weeks its not gone, then it gets dumped in the oil barrel and fresh gas is purchased. Gas is relatively cheap to replace and eliminates a bad fuel situation to arise.

With oil mixed in? Some 2-cycle oils have stabalizers added that will (may?) keep fuel fresh longer than unmixed gasoline.

I keep a one gallon can for the field and a two gallon can to mix in or divy up with assorted chainsaws, tiller, snowblower and an outboard. They all get the same mix except when I am breaking in an engine. Keeps things fresh.
