DLE 20 compared to Zenoah G20ei

I ordered my first DLE engine today. I currently have several Zenoah's, several DA's and a ZDZ. How does the DLE compare? I'm replacing a Saito 120s with the DLE 20 on a Great Planes 60 size stick. It looks as if it will fit the same mount. I'd appreciate any advice/tips you guys might have. It may seem a little strange to be asking AFTER I have ordered the DLE, but I had to try one....especially at the price (compared to the others.) Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that should keep me busy for quite a while.

A DLE20 on a Great Planes Big Stick 60 will be an awesome combo, as my G20 is about a 1/2 inch of prop behind a DLE 20 and it sure hauls my GP Big Stick 60 with loads of authority.

It looks as if it will just about fit the same mount as the Saito 120s I'm replacing. I hope to fly it this weekend. Will keep you guys updated.

RE: DLE 20 compared to Zenoah G20ei

I installed the engine yesterday, and test ran/tuned it this morning. So far, I'm impressed. It is much more compact than the G20, and weighs a little more than half what the G20 weighs. I was looking at the suggested props for both, and evidently, it swings a bigger prop. I'm liking this little engine more and more. So far, I haven't found a down side to it. It is smaller/more compact, weighs less, swings a bigger prop, and is cheaper than the G20....wow! Don't get me wrong, I like my G20 just fine(other than being battery hungry). It is one of the most dependable engines I have. Time will tell if the DLE can compete there, too.

Because of it's rear carb configuration it has more space in the cylinder to allow for more and much bigger boost ports than the G20, still I love my ultra reliable G20. I got mine converted early on to an RC exl ignition and use a 4.8 volt 700mA nicad battery for ignition power which gives me almost 2 hours of run time.

Finally flew the DLE 20 today. I've got it on a 60 size GP Big Stick. After a short takeoff roll, I pulled back hard on the elevator stick, and it went straight up...and kept going, and going, and....I have no doubt that it would have gone completely out of sight if I had held it to it, but I didn't want to overdo it till I break it in. To say the least, I'm very impressed.:D The two guys that were at the field with me are now wanting one badly.

I took my Giles 202 with the DLE 30 and flew at the club field today. The guys want to go gas now. Aslo another guy in the club bought 3 DLE 20 engines. I guess he may fly a airplane witha DLE 20 tomorrow. It shoud be a fun afternoon if the weather is good. I may try to get one of then 20cc engines if he will sell one. That would be a long shot though! Best Regards, Capt,n

Don't know what type flying you are into, but I am getting ready to put the DLE 20 that I have in a Top Flite 60 sized Mustang. A older guy at the field has one in his and it is a great flyer. I have an OS 110A in mine at the moment but just have to try the 20!!:D:D He is just so much faster than me!:)

A buddy of mine has a DLE20 in a Great Planes PT-17 Stearman and it is a great combination. The 20 pulls the Stearman around with authority.

RE: DLE 20 compared to Zenoah G20ei

ScottMcM,

How does your DLE20 compare to the G20ei for noise?

I did some side by side comparison between the RCGF20 (Aerovate 20) and G20 couple of years back and out of the box, the G20ei was far quieter. Due to it coming with a proper silencer as standard rather than just an exhaust diverter. To get the RCGF down to the same subjective noise level required their wrap-around muffler, which pushed up the cost to the same level as the zenoah and the weight one Oz higher. That exercise made me appreciate my G20 even more - a cracking little engine that oozes quality.

In the Uk, flying sites are lost due to noise complaints so its a key factor in choosing an engine.

Thanks.

MSS.

I think that the DLE is louder than the Zenoah. I'll have to compare them next time out. My field is pretty far from any neighbors, so noise has never been an issue.

RE: DLE 20 compared to Zenoah G20ei

Even with it's after market muffler which is less restrictive than the stock unit, my G20 is quite a bit less noisy that a DLE20 on it's stock muffler, and I do agree that the G20 is is really a gem of an engine.
