I contacted HatoriUSA and they directed me to central hobbies who did not have what i needed. I also checked out graves hobby

Another place that might have something that can be used is Mile High RC. I purchased a canister from them and it came with convoluted steel header. You could bend that header to form something that could work. But I have not actually done that myself.

I'll take a look but i was trying to avoid the really thin chinese headers that break fairly easily. This header is going to see a lot of Gs.

Did you actually communicate with Richard? He usually offers to find a way to get you a header if his dealers do not stock the specific header you are seeking. Try again.

Yes. I contacted him directly, he directed me elsewhere.

I'll let him know that where he sent me did not have what i needed though and see what he says.

EDIT: He said he can get me one in one week. He just wanted me to check a place that was closer to me first.
Indeed! Thanks for making me contact him again ahaha.

Can't wait to get the pipe all set up. I've got a vess 20b that i'm going to try out when i get it up and running.

Anyone running a pipe ever try a 21'' prop like a 21x8???
Great news Joe! Anxious to hear how this works out for you.
I've got an OS GT 33 for my 71 Slick and I'm using the stock muffler for now, but I'll be potentially interestedin this type of setup down the road.

Soo what can i use to connect my header to the pipe? I know there are a few different options but since this is my first pipe i would like some recommendations. Things available at the local hardware store would be awesome, but i'm willing to order online.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

I just currently installed an OS 33 GT on an EG mxs-r i did all the pipe and header length testing on a stand using heater hose as my length setter started off with a 6" peice in between my header and pipe KS pipe. From there i shorten till i had optimal performance from a previously tuned engine on stock muffler! power is sick! i posted all this back a few pages ago with header length

cheers!

Are you still running a 19x8 or did you prop up since then? I see you are using the KS pipe. I will be using a ES pipe and use a Vess 20B, hoping i can get ~7400-7500RPM with that prop.

I've been flying other planes, and still yet to fly this one :( haha but i'm finishing it up as we speak..hoping for a maiden next weekend. As far as the prop i'm leaving the 19x8 on but i also have a 20x6 and a 20x8 prop to try as well..i have mine tuned @ 8200 on the 19x8 and i'm sure i can tweak it more but i'll fly it at that :)

Sounds good! Do you have any pictures of the installation?

Hone1er 05-11-2013 08:45 AM

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

No pics but i used an aluminum extension and Dave Brown pipe mount. Since i have the extension someone recommended supporting the pipe in two places instead of one, anyone else have an opinion on this? My plane will be subjected to a lot of high G stuff. Also, how far back should i put the support? Should it be closer to the rear of the pipe or in the middle?

Don't know what these are, or material of construction.

I use ES Composites 40G carbon pipes and Hatori 2301 back to center header. I use a short extension from an aluminum broom handle to get the correct length. For couplers between pipe and header piecesI use stuff I make myself from ceramic fabric. 100's and 100's of flights and still working well with no blow thru the coupling material. I sell the couplers if anyone is interested.....

The ES Composites carbon pipes are supremely lightweight (the 40G weighs less than 3 ounces) and are super quiet. Highly recommend them...pricy at $200 a piece but they are works of art and truly last.

I use one soft rubber isomount to mount mine at the pipe's approximateCG, making certain the pipe will not touch any part of the airframe. Simple, extremely effective, lasts and lasts.....

ES40G and ES30G are no longer available. You'll need to order a ES35G which is what i'm using in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud9gpkmq-Is

You link isn't working.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser

The 35G covers the 30cc class of engines just fine. Ed didn't want to carry several models of essentially identical pipes

Regarding the pipe design, there is no difference in the front end (the tuning end) of the 30G, 40G and now the 35G. The back section of the pipe was 1" shorter for the 30G (compared to 40G) and now 1/2" shorter for the 35G. Tuning is identical for the three...... 27" from exhaust flange to reflector baffle, is a good all around length
