Gasoline Fuel tank Stoppers
 

I had an issue today with a Sullivan Stopper supplied with their Aluminum Fuel Tank Stopper Upgrade Kit. Today my stopper came loose then came out. The black stopper was falling apart. I have seen other posts on this but they were from some time ago. I use Dubro tanks. Anyone using a stopper that lasts with gasoline?

I could use one of the newer "bottle tanks" but weight is not an issue for me. Longevity is. I like the durability of the Dubro tanks not the durability of the stoppers I am using.

Those black stoppers haven't been designed for use with gasoline.
Dubro has one that is, it's a redish brown color.....

sullivan makes the worst gas stopper, dubros gas stoppers are better

im over all that, i went water bottle method, people think it's because i want to save money, not true at all, it costs about the same, it's the ease in maintenance why i went that route.

I saw the Dubro one. Its only for gasoline, not sure how it hold up to the Ethanol in our gasoline. Sullivan lists the black one for all fuels, glo or gas. I wonder if the black ones that came with the aluminum stopper kits were an older design? I have had two fail in the last several years. One was in a 50cc plane that had foam on the bottom of the fuselage. What a mess that made!

I like the idea behind the bottle type tanks. They just seem so delicate. The plastic is so thin. Do they actually hold up well?

Thats a smart water bottle.... Fiji water bottles work great too they are square and more rigid

yes they are delicate, i create a cradle for them, and strap it in gently, then the cradle is screwed or strapped to the plane... depending on my setup

The Sullivan (black) stoppers that come with the aluminum caps are not good. I've been using them for years. I really like the aluminum cap assemblies. Call Sullivan & let them know what you have experienced. They usually will replace it no charge with their "universal" stopper. It's black with a slight yellowish, green tint. Those work very well. Other than that, everyone else is correct. USE THE DUBRO GAS STOPPER.

Theres no mistaking the DuBro stopper, it has an O stamped on it, and yes they last for years and years. The new heavy weight clunks from DuBro are really nice too reguardless of tank size.

I've been using my Fiji water bottle now for a couple years, no issues at all. It's good as new. Nephew has been using one in his 100cc about 2 1/2 years no issues. (Both smoke and fuel tanks)

I have been using Du-Bro tanks and their gas stoppers for many years without a problem. Currently I have a number of installations that are more than 7 years old without any leaks or other problems. The Tygon tube is still original and there has been no need to replace this every year as some contend. Yes, the fuel here in Texas does contain Ethanol but no problems with fuel stoppers, Tygon or carburettors have been encountered. BTW - I use the Walbro felt clunks in all my tanks.

Have 5 Dubro Stoppers coming. Will give it a shot. Very surprising to me that Sullivan has a product out there with this kind of problem. Such a small item to be able to cause this much damage!

I like how you did that...I am doing something similar except inside the tank, yours is a little better and I will copy it. I am using Fiji bottles and make my own nylon fittings to fit as necessary

Suggestion, put a piece of velcro somewhere on the round tank to hold position. Your hold down straps (zip ties?) don't need to be tight since the velcro will not permit roatation

I've used the Dubro red stoppers for gasoline before. Problem I have encountered is that they are quite undesized for the typical plastic tank hole. They needed lots of tightening and occasionally I had leaks. I still have one plane outfitted but I like the Fiji bottles better

I will not use a stopper. It is a point of failure. A screw on cap is the way to go. Also, you can get in to service the tank without having to replace the stopper. Everyone swears by Dubro, but only the screw on caps are failure proof. If you do not like the water bottles, search for Nalgene bottles online. That is what the Bennett built tanks used and were the best I have ever used.

The sullivan stopper came with two 1/8" brass tubes and one 3/16" brass tube (with a sized hole in cap to match). What's with this giant 3/16" tubing?

I am planning on a three line set-up. I assume it now means I have to buy a larger size tygon for that one tube? A 3/16" ID?

Any recommendations on which line should use the larger tubing? (I would like to avoid it on line to carb since the carb tube is 1/8) I was thinking the fill line.

I can't imagine such large tubing is necessary for many RC sized engine fuel demands...

Some people like to use the 3/16" tubing for their big engines.
