*** question BRISON 5.8 & 4.2 and Byron 3 - 4 blade props***

i have a question,

i have a Byron T-28 with the brison 4.2 (69cc) and the 3 blade byron propeller

a friend told me that if i use a brison 5.8 (96cc) i need the byron 4 blade propeller, not the 3 blade is too little for it

is this true, and are those any good?, the byron props 3-4 blade
is the 4.2 enogh?
can i use the 4.2 with the byron 4 blade or is just for the 5.8?

i just put the 4.2 with the byron 3 blade, or just use a 2 blade prop, or change for the 5.8

please advise, thanks in advance for your time

peter

RE: *** question BRISON 5.8 & 4.2 and Byron 3 - 4 blade props***

Very simply put, the old Byron props are very inefficient and a very poor choice compared to most any of the modern props that are available. I know scale guys want a scale appearing prop and seem to be willing to sacrifice anything that resembles good performance for that appearance factor.... but my suggestion would be to fly with a quality 2 or 3 blade prop then change to the scale prop for display.

For example, the Byron prop doesn't do anything particularly well ... takeoff performance is marginal at best and especially at Byron airplane weights. Flight performance will be anemic with marginal airspeed and climb out.

Over the years I have seen several people switch from the Byron props to simple wood 2 blade props for flight and all wondered why they didn't do it long before they did. Trust me, the 4.2 with a modern 2 blade wood prop such as a Menz or Xoar or any one of many others will outperform the 5.8 with any of the Byron props. It will also run with less vibration.
