chinese engines

I think I'm done with Chinese made engines, I just bought a NIB DLE 35RA does not run worth a damn, looking it up on the net it either has a Ign. module problem, a reed problem, a carb problem, possibly even a ring problem. All I know is it won't rev up past 4000RPM, the high end needle is totally useless, I even had the needle shut and the engine continued to run, running Klotz 40-1 19x8 xoar. I own, DA's, Brisons, 3W's, BME's, Zenoahs and a D&B, all ran phenomenal right out of the box and everyone is over 10 years old with nothing more than carb rebuilds on them. It just isn't worth the savings, 350.00 for an engine with instant issues, I'll spend the extra 100-150 next time.
BTW! I don't want to hear who's got one that runs great, I really don't care and good luck to you.
CRRC's Venom 45's, RCFG's I've had them also one after the other "they suck" if you've got one that runs? good for you.
Well that's my rant

So I'd be more than willing to pay the freight so you wouldn't have to look at that junk any more. Hell, I might even give you 20 bucks for your trouble!

Give me 300.00 and I'll ship it to you it's been fired up twice

Truckracer 07-18-2016 09:55 AM

I'm so glad you found a forum where you could vent your frustration while suppressing the opinions others may have.

ahicks 07-18-2016 09:58 AM

Wow,
At 300. seems like you're pretty proud of an engine you call junk, and by your own admission won't run right?

OK, reality. Done being smart. Face the fact you got a bad one. Send it back and get another one, then run the hell out of it like the rest of us are.

BTW, 99.99% of the ring problems were on the very earliest engines - and they weren't THAT big a deal. 35's having issues with those or any other issues are just something you and others read about on the internet....

Well I did just fork out 350.00, but I'll take your advice and ride it out
Thanks

Your not going to beat a Zenoah, not even with a dead horse. I dont know the difference between DLE and DLA, but one of them is worth the $$.

In other words you were just ranting to mouth off.

speedracerntrixie 07-18-2016 04:16 PM

Call your CC company and about getting a refund through them. If successful take your 350 and add a bit more and buy a DA. Problem solved.

airega1 07-19-2016 01:34 PM

OK I'm not taking back what I said about chinese engines, but I will make DLE the exception and give an apology to DLE. I found the problem, a stuck throttle and yes I jumped the gun, live and learn, thanks guys for listening
Frank

Truckracer 07-19-2016 02:16 PM

Hey, at least you're man enough to come back and report your findings. I hope the engine gives you many happy and successful flights.

You can make more exceptions...
EME engines
OS engines made in China
Any other decent engine made in China.
Most people don't expect an engine made in China to be as good as one made in Japan, US or Europe.
This is far from the truth, some Chinese brands (DLE, EME) are decent engines, even RCGF makes some good engines.

True words, there are exceptions to every rule......remember Mintor engines.

I have two DLE 35 ra's and hope yours turns out to run as well as mine do.

Mintor engines are made in Italy, I know a club member with an EME and it runs well, I had an OS 33 and had nothing but problems with it, I fixed the throttle on my DLE 35RA and it is now a monster turning a 19x8 xoar 7600

Gizmo-RCU 07-27-2016 04:04 PM

I run an 19x8 xoar on my Escapade and a 20x8 on my Valiant, both do very well!

I remember. Mine Mintor 22cc starts & runs very good. I flew my Pro 260 a few days ago. The fuel was pure gas with redline oil at 32-1 over a year old ! ! ! Ran Great.........

I am researching boxer configured twin engines in the 100 - 120cc range. I came across this Chinese one while doing so. I have never heard of the brand before.
Is there anyone reading that has heard about one of these? If so, what are the reports?

http://www.austars-model.com/torqpro...ne_g16459.html

I notice there is no prop bolt circle diameter mentioned and this would be crucial for the purchasing or machining of a prop drilling guide.

I prefer this top mounted carburettor configuration. The best carb position of all, of the engines I have viewed on websites, is the four stroke Kolm (very expensive). It has a rear mounted carb which is compatible with the use of the front part of the fuselage as an air filter. I will have an air filter on any engine that I use on the rough grass strips that we aerotow gliders on.

Truckracer 08-23-2016 01:56 PM

I have no idea whether that engine is a good one or not. Have never heard of that brand name and don't know if it is the same as any of the other Chinese brands or not.

Regarding the carb position, that is the same configuration as most twins marketed today, that being with the carb on the same side of the engine as the exhaust ports. The picture is just inverted from the normal mounting position and the engine could be mounted either carb up or down. Carb down being by far the most common as that fits most cowls the best. Note the exhaust will always be on the same side as the carb. Most all of these engines share the same prop bolt pattern which is the popular DA / DLE pattern.

If it were me and I was buying a new twin, I'd choose one of the more common brands so that I'd know that I was buying a known product.

Good luck with your venture.

Good advice; it makes sense to me. I am just curious.

Good luck with your venture.
Thanks.

Somebody has to be the guinea pig. I purchased a TMM-106 twin. Never heard of this engine and really had my doubts, but this thing is a beast. It hand started right out of the box and throttle response is great. I've got about 4 gallons thru it now and it does'nt miss a beat. Swings a 26X10 Xoar WWI Simitar at 6800 on the stock supplied mufflers, fairly quiet too for an over 100cc engine, so you just never know.

Which engine is that please Barry? Pardon my ignorance if this should be obvious. I did a search using Google but only found a video of one running.

STUKA BARRY 08-25-2016 03:15 PM

Its definitely not obvious as this brand engine is rarely seen. I purchased it at the Perry Ga. swap meet. It was brand new in the box. I dont know who sells them or even repairs them, but if you need a CHEAP 100cc engine, thats a brute, look for TMM brand Chinese knock-off.

Truckracer 08-25-2016 03:16 PM

There may still be some TMM106 out there but they have not been produced for several years now. The family that produced them now make the GP line of engines that includes their 123 twin and 61 single. These seem to be quite good engines.

If you are interested in a low cost twin, you might be interested in the Bull Engines. Here is a link for additional info. A relatively new engine that copied heavily from the DA 120, they seem to be running quite well and they have good support. They also have a single.
