I am new to gas engines and have been running a used DA 100 for about two months. Generally I love the engine, it puts out great power and has been a five flip motor, even when cold. I have always followed the recommended starting procedure and had no issues.
I took it out yesterday and fueled up the plane. I choked it and turned on the ignition. I flipped it a a couple of times and it popped, then I took off the choke & flipped it again expecting it to start and it tried... it really tried. Over and over it would pop and seem like it was just about to take off running but would never "catch". I would flip it and it would continue to turn on its own for about 8 or 10 revolutions with the audible crackle of burning gas, but would never start running.
This went on for a shoulder busting eternity while I tried different combinations of throttle, low end mixtures, choke positions, etc. I checked the battery voltage and that was good as well. I have no idea what to do next and would love some help. I don't know what else to check.
The only thing different from the last time I flew it a week and a half ago is the prop. I went from a big two bladed prop to a smaller three bladed prop. Would the reduced inertia of the smaller prop cause that problem? I wouldn't think so, but I am a beginner and obviously have no idea what I am doing. Please help?
