I have used ZDZ engines almost exclusively for a number of years.
Very satisfied with them
I hav been asked if this new engine from China will withstnd running with tuned exhaust systems .
We use exclusively 32-1 synthetic oil fuel and have no problems .
The problem with cracked rotor we know from previous ZDZexperience - typically caused by hardening techinique used in manufacturing
As we prefer rotary to reed valves setups ,we are watching to see how this engine performs.

What a bummer. I would have liked to have seen if this matter was taken care of. Strange that Mr. "Carl" from China disappeared, and we have heard nothing in two months. I was about to buy an XYZ engine from HobbyCity, but have seen just about enough here to scare me off[&:]

I have a Turnigy 50 CC, HP. It is the rotary valve engine. With a Vox 20 X 10 prop, and a MT tuned pipe is is turning 8200RPM. Very powerful engine. Engine ran rough at first, but found ign timing to be out of adjustment. The factory setting, at least on my motor was set at 36deg advanced. Reset to 28deg advanced, and world of diference. It actualy picked up some RPM. Idel is very smoth now, and good transation. It will pull my big 102 inch wing span AirTractor straight up. Plane weighs 20 pounds. It has more power than my DA 50. So far I am well pleased with this motor. Time will tell.

I purchased on of them a while back and had some issues with it starting and running, after replacing the Carburator with a Carb from a Evolution 26 wich i had laying around it got way better but the ignition crapped out after 10-12 min on my test stand. Replaced it this Weekend with a DLE ignition putting another plug on the trigger connector and setting the timing to 28 degree it starts like a DA and it rips a 21X10 NX with 6200 Rpm with excellent transition. Still little tricky starting warm but i'm use to that from my ZDZ 40 who is a rotary valve motor just as well with the same behavior
I put this Engine in a Reactor 160 and reply here results after flying it, but so far it runs good, perfect is something else we most likely
never archive with affordable Engines from unknown manufacturers.
I keep my eye on this post

I very rarely get on the forums, but I subscribed to this one because of our past experience.

Running 6200rpm on a 21x10 prop is not a strong engine in today's standards.
You should be close to 6900-7000 with that prop.

The #1 problem with that engine is the design on it's valve clearances and the poor bearings they have used.

The #2 problem is their ignition will not hold up.
We replaced around 60 of their ignitions over a 1-1/4 year period. Most they would not give us in warranty.

The #3 problem is, when they get hot they are hard (if not successful) to start.

My suggestion (if you decide to keep it) is to replace the ignition with a Rcexl, re-time it and run it till it dies.

I could get into other issues, but being a major supporter to FG and the fact that I am (or try to be) a
business professional, it would be wrong.

forgott, Ignition now DLA (the XYZ one sucks)yepp works, mentioned in my forum reply Carb from Evolution 26, smaller ventury but all over impovement, front bearing from 3W 150, same and no loosnes anymore, all over runs sweet, stars like a ZDZ 40 no difference just have to figure out its habbits. Cant beat the price and all of them Gassers have an Up and Down somewhwre.

Hi, I purchased the Turnigy last year and was upset because it came when I broke my wrist! I got antzy and set the engine on the test stand.
It ran wonderfully with around 25 lbs thrust. Few months later I test flew the Extreme Flight 74" Yak.
Had 3 flights on it and everything was fine, I did some repairs to the airframe and put it away for the winter.
Today I got it out in full dress on the driveway. The darn engine would not run except on prime! I tested the fuel lines andall was well,
on close inspection the pressure tube was kinked. Replaced and still no go! I pulled the engine and will try it on the test stand.
I'm at a total loss to know what happened!?!
Any suggestions are welcome....

Hi All, After setting the engine on the test stand, I started thinking back to Sept when I last flew. The pushrod I had on the choke came apart and thus finished my flying for the day... so I thought. The first flight was uneventful except for the landing where I duffed the prop and bent the landing gear in the soft sod. Now back on the stand I though what if the woodruff key was sheered and by flight 3 shifted causing the timing to be out.
Well I couldn't budge the nut on the hub but I took a reading of the timing and found the Hall Sensor to be at 51*TDC. I tried to move the sensor and it was loose.
Set the timing to 27*TDC and after 15 minutes of flipping it started and ran. When it has ran for a while' it sure is hard to start again!
I ran it with a JXF 20x10 prop hoping for less thrust but got 24 lbs and 6810 RPM.

The TGY52 Overbore , do u know what kinda battery i should be using for this ?
some people said only to use a 4.8v 1500mah , is that right ?

Hi, It depends how much flying you plan to do. I have a 4.8 1400Mah pack with my Turnigy HP50, I have never ran a battery out with an ignition system yet.
The next plane I get will have a Lipo with the output at 6 volt.

Hi, if it isn't too old and keeps a steady charge, you will do fine. Cycle it to find out the discharge time, you don't want a weak battery on your plane.
I had a 1000Mah NiCad that was still good but used it for bench running only.

This is a old thread from five years ago. That particular engine was discontinued in favor of newer engine designs. It was originally sold through Hobby King. Hobby King now sells a 55cc Turnigy engine but it uses a reed valve.

Man I hate these old dead threads....and discontinued data on engines.................

Well the engine was made by XYZ engines. When they changed the design, they sold the older remaining stock through hobby King rebranded as Turnigy. it just happens that a XYZ 50cc engine is on sale via Ebay at this time. It would be a better engine than the one Hobby King sold too.
