RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
That is great news Steve! Everyone in this thread says to be patient, But it's HARD!!! I'm far from patient, Just ask my wife  I'm hoping I don't have to wait much longer (although you went 111 days). Maybe I'll have mine sometime next year :)

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Kfla-Mine was a repair job not a new engine order. It has been quite a while since anyone has received a new engine. It would be great to know what is going on with the deliveries.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I spoke with Todd on the phone last week. His reply to when motors would be ready was this.I have several hundred motors waiting for the cylinders to be be lined. When I recieve the cylinders back,I will be putting them all together. Should be here in two weeks. So my thoughts are after the first of the year,Todd will be a busy man putting together all those engines and he will have some very happy customers. I hope that all comes together as my AJ slick is just waiting for one.

Here is a link to the Syssa that I just got back from the manufacturer.
It took 10 months and 2 weeks, and I didn't get a rail mount back, or the same engine. Anyway, here's the link to what I am selling. There are some accessories too. More pictures available. RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I'm not happy that they don't take phone calls (mail box full, at least erase some messages so I can leave a message) and don't return Email. I had the exhaust blow off the back of the engine. Mine you this wasn't the bolts backing out, but the helicoils coming out of the cylinder head. Never did find the exhaust pipe in the woods. As far as I concerned, I have JUNK on the table because I am not shipping this engine blind. Turn around time is mute. I can always come up with some type of project.

I am so glad I sold mine!:D
One can have the best product around and yet if you cant support it your destine to fail as a product provider;) |

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I am assuming it is the old style muffler. Can't post a picture right now.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
What I would like to know is this: What are the people doing that have had muffler problems? I have nearly 250 hours on my engine with the original muffler. It has never come loose. I did order the new muffler but have not taken the engine off to replace it because I believe that if it ain't broke don't screw with it. The new muffler was ordered because of all the posts of muffler problems. No problems here, just trying to get some insite as to what is causeing all the problems.
|
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
John, yours seems to be the rare exception?
Original mufflers wouldn't hold their thickness dimension, affecting the bolts ability to hold the muffler on tight. Muffler would loosen up after just a couple flights, and start fretting the exhaust outlet of the engine as well as the muffler. What started this chain of events debatable, and is now a moot point with the new design availability. I don't remember heli coils in mine either.... |
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
John,
Not everyone had problems with the old muffler. I posted a fix on this link and in my gallery and some people used that to cure the problem. Also,Todd did a re-design to shorten the muffler mounting bolts which cured the problem. If the mounting bolts are accessible from the back of the muffler, it is the old style; if the back cover needs to be removed to get to the bolts, it is the new style muffler. Both of my engines have the new muffler now. |

Here's the back of my engine. Gee Wally,no threads!!
|
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Looks like the vibrations from the long muffler screws pulled the threads out. You should have got the muffler changed over before hand. I changed mine and haven't had one more problem. It flew the rest of the season. After hearing all the comments on here, I ordered a DLE 35R cause I'd like to finish my winter project in time for some spring flying. Its really hard to believe that Todd can't resolve all the communication problems surrounding his business. The engine, once in hand, works good. Maybe not the most powerful, but very reliable. I've had a lot of fun with mine in 2012 and 2013 looks promising for more of those good times at the field running my SAP 180. Happy new year to all. Mike

ORIGINAL: SIMCO Here's the back of my engine. Gee Wally,no threads!! If youdon't mind a DIY project;youwould need to put in helicoils, or drill and tap the current holes for larger bolts, which is what I would do.It is a simple fix. I also have a spare new-style muffer if you would like to use it. |
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
What happened to the back of the cylinder? I see a couple damaged fins.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
It appears that this engine has had some very rough treatment.
|
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
I communicate with Todd regularly and know beyond any doubt that he's working hard trying to get these issues resolved. The muffler issue is an easy fix if you want to do it yourself. All you have to do is tap the holes 1/4x20. Take the muffler apart and using a cut off wheel on a dremel, cut down the bolt posts that are inside the muffler. Use the appropriate length 1/4x20 socket head alloy screws (depending on how much of the posts you cut off) to reinstall the muffler. I like to drill the bolts with a carbide or cobalt 1/16th bit and safety wire them together. Also, I use high-temp thread locker when putting it all back together. I believe that the issue of the muffler coming loose has to do with a harmonic vibration that is directly related to the length of the bolt. Shorten the bolt, solve the issue.
On a side note, I have talked to Todd about the issues of customer service. One of the resoloutions he has made for 2013 is for an improvement in that area. I'm not one to make excuses for myself or anyone else, but the last couple of weeks since the tragedy at Newtown have been especially hard for the Syssa family. Nuff said on that. Steve |

And this WAS the airplane. That's why I'm not happy.

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
SIMCO,
Wow, great looking plane. I would be sick to loose that one too. Looks like the second engine muffler screwsnever came loose. Did you find the "root cause" of the crash? |
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Wow, I can understand where you're coming from a lot better now. The way I see it, whatever you do engine-wise is going to be quite an investment. Not sure how I would proceed? If you're going to use those engines again though, I'd just order a pair of cylinders and new style mufflers and instal them myself? -Al

RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
The airplane was happily flying at cruise speed, half throttle and the left engine just stopped cold. It was a ways out there and by the time I caught on=too late. I did try the ignition on another engine.Started and ran. Obviously, can't see if the carb works.
|
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Did you find out why the engine quit? Was the left engine the one with the missing muffler?
|
RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
The left engine is the one that quit. Can't run it,no mufflers.
