RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)

I just purchased a Venus II from a club member.  I going to try my thumbs at the Sportsman sequence.  It came with a Saito 100 that didn't have near enough power for the up lines.   I just got a Saito 125.... then I stumbled on this thread.

The DLE-20 sounds like it might be a good motor for the Venus II.  It is another 5 ounces heavier but the Venus flys fairly light anyway.

Don't ya love it when you purchase something... and find out their is something better for less money.

Thanks to Jody, I ordered my DLE 20 yesterday. This is my first gas engine and it really fits the size airplanes that I fly and afford. I've had one of the OMP Ultimate 10-300 kits for a while and this looks like the perfect fit. Anybody have and experience with this airplane? It doesn't have a tube. Should I add one?

Jody,

What's the distance from rear backplate of engine - to - choke plate (open)?

I plan to mount this engine on an AW [.60-.90] ProX260 ARF-QB, and that distance
measurement will determine how far out on the rails to mount this engine &/or
if notching the fuse for carb/choke plate clearance might be needed.

Give me a couple of days, I don't have room to store all of our planes within reach so that one is at our warehouse.

From the center of the rear mounting hole to the edge of the open choke valve is 2-5/16"

All of the other information that is currently available is on page 1 of this thread, will update it as more information becomes available. We are now accepting pre-orders for the first shipment.

Hey Jody,
Do you think the DLE 20cc would work well with this for 3D?

Probably a little to much engine for that plane, try the 15cc gassers.

Regarding the plane's estimated weight, I'd say it'd be a good match!
Just watch out for prop clearance to the ground.

For the flyers new to gas engines, some suggestions;

Use a fuel tank stopper designed for gas.....

Gas needs Tygon fuel tubing (1/8" I.D.)

Nah, that's just about as radical as my GP Ultimate 1.60 with a DA-50r!:D

I'm just considering the flyers new to gassers, reading these posts on this DLE-20, and thinking they too can do as we have, stuffing massive engines in their models.

In THAT particular model, a DLE30 is massive overkill, a DLE 20 is a bunch overkill, and the 15cc is a great match. Things like mounting space inside the cowl, and prop to ground clearance need to be considered. Bigger engine=bigger props=less prop to ground clearance, unless they stretch out the l-g.

Twice I've put 350 V-8's in Chevy Vega's. THAT is beyond massive overkill (370 HP in a 2450# chassis), but doable.[sm=72_72.gif]

Have a look at what JOHNS3D did with the RCGF 20cc and it weighs 38.1oz with ignition and muffler!! Yep, it weighs a TON.

it depends, if you look the specs of the Edge will find that the wing area and fuselage is almost the same as a .60-90 airplane, thats why i think a DLE20 can be amazing for the AW Edge, of course with a good propeller will def. make some crazy 3D.
