I bought one based on no electric spark, no motor, no diaphram (sealed unit) design for gas use. Kinda pricey but works good IMO and the way I want. Made a ply plate and velcroed to handle on plastic 2 gal can. Will not reverse flow so I bought a two way valve from RCAT Systems - http://www.rcatsystems.com/store
and two way taped to top of pump. I asked Sonictronics about a two way valve earlier and they said one will be available and customer would be notified if they sent the warranty card in. Haven't heard anything yet but I already have RCAT valve anyway. I like they way it woks and seems to fill my 32 oz quickly (never timed!!!???!!!). Only saw one post where individual had a leaker (warrenty I would assume would take care of)

Hi dblades, the solid state pump used in the rcat system looks like one from Facet or Purcolator. I won't be surprised that you find one in the Sonictronics unit. Thanks for the input ! BTW, how loud does the nifty pump sound ?

Hi rajul,

Hard to tell whats inside (secret I guess, hehee). Very sealed unit. When you first start there is a some what audible clacking noise until the gas gets to the pump then it goes silent - just a faint pulsing sound.

Sounds good. Cost wise, if I am going to end up getting the RCAT valve, might as well the complete system from RCAT - pump and valve.

Have you looked at the Sig Gas pump?
Goes both ways. Its a bit noisy but seems to pump well at $35.

The pump sold by RCats has a motor I believe...

The SonicTronics is solid state with no motor, etc...

I like mine VERY well... BUT I need to egt the 2 way valve... (real pain in the highney to swap & get gas smell on my hands)

I also like a 2.5 gallon can... When you get down to less than 1/5 gallon, you can pump in 2 gallons and the proper oil for perfect mix... a 2 gallon can with a 1/2 gallon left makes it hard to "refill" until it's all gone...

The RCAT system use a solid state pump as well and it looks like a Facet.

What exactly is a Facet?

http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/Facetpump.html The RCAT pump specs I received by email seem to match the SS503.

Mordib, I saw this posted on RCAT website that you might want to know:

Two Way Fuel Valve Advisory - Posted on 22 Jul 2003

Several customers have reported experiencing drips from the two way fueling valve at the brass outlet/aluminum body intersections. If you have experienced any problems with your valve, please contact us and we can either repair or replace the item.

Andy T;

LHS just got a Sig gas pump in..will take a look at it..........not going to spend $70.00 for a pump that won't reverse..Hell,I've been using a kavan fuel pump ( pumping gas) for years, and it reverses..never any problem.........

Well... I'm hoping that Sontronics DOES come out with a reversing valve...

I was told they were. And if the opther on is prone to leaks... :(

I remember beign told at the Toledo show:

"What's the big deal in switching 2 lines?" as if anyone (me included) was an idiot if we thought that was hard.

So I agreed. But in reality... the pump doesn't always unprime the lines... meaning there's a crapload of gas in them when you switch... i.e. gas stench all over your hands when you get home. ANd new lines are difficult to remove from the nipples too... You gotta pull your hiney off to get them off....a nd when there's gas in those lines... well let's just spray it EVERYWHERE...

Tho I like the operation, I dont like the pushbutton either.... stooped down for 2 minutes AND smooshing a button is not the most enjoyable way to start my flying sessions.

So all in all I guess I'd have to tell people to relly look arounf first BEFORE they bought the Nifty.

I plan on contacting them and asking for either info on the reversing valve OR returning mine for my money back... I got it for $60 at the show, but with the mess it ain't work even that.

Gentlemen,

The two way valve has been working very well for many for quite some time. The original prototypes have been working since the spring of this year without any problems. Unfortunately, one recent batch has had a couple reports of small leaks and the advisory was posted to alert those that may experience problems. RCAT Systems stands behind the products that it sells and will make good on any problems found. Anyone experiencing problems should contact me and we will replace the valve.

Regards,

I use the Slimline gas pump and F1 fueler. This is a hand crank but it doesn't lake long - 130 cranks for 32oz tank. It does reverse and the aluminum cap housing (nicely machined) receives the F1 probe. Forms a closed system.

The F1 fueler is a probe that goes into a machined receptable on the fuselage. An O-ring cap goes in it's place after fueling.

There was an issue early this year with O-rings - buna. They expanded making it difficult to remove the caps. Slimline has changed the composition of the rings to viton. No problems.

Great pump and fueler.
