PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
If there are any racing events here in TEXAS PLEASE POST THEM UP either on this site for me or on NMPRA.org. Im seeing post about Alvin rc club, texas city club, and george town along with the ones up in Dallas, Fort
Worth area. Im willing to drive just need to know when they are.
Im defiantly not interested in club 40. Just AMA 424, Q25, and EF1.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
At the moment Club 40, and Q25 are the leading classes right now. We have had some talk of a couple 424 races (Maybe) in 2011. I've spoke to several racers and they have stated cost, and rules changes, as the main reason for the weakness of the faster classes. Clubs also seem to have little intrest in racing, as in years past, 3 pole takes lots of people, and lots of room, seems right now were just getting by with the 2 pole set up. You should also come and try club 40, I'm sure you'd be surprised at just how hard they'll race ya.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
A friend of mine from Texas comes up to Kansas (Wichita , Hillsdale, and the KC Missouri side) for races with our group during the summer. Between the three clubs, we have 6 races in the summer, 424 and lately some of the 426 with the Sport Jett class. Turnouts have been upwards of 25 entries, nearly 30 one day at the KC race.
Wichita also used to do (and may still, someone from there might chime in) have quite a bit of local 2-pole racing, also. The 424 and 426 stuff is all three pole.
I know it's a long haul, but he seems to be having fun at the races with us. It would be good if you could get some 424 and/or 426 going down there, too!

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
For a two day race i would travel up north no problem for some 424/ 426 racing. Maybe not this year because im deploying to Afghanistan in the next few months. I am planning on getting into 422 soon as soon as i get back. I just love the speed of these and look of q40.
Honestly 424 is really not much faster than Q25 imo and the cost is exactly the same. Rule changes? I believe they are almost identical to q25 with exception of the motors. The airframe for club 40 is about the same price as a viper and 10 times more ugly using the exact same engine.
I dont doubt the club 40 is a fun race. I just dont have the room or any desire to race them for the price, ill buy another q500 setup.
Thanks for all the responses BTW. Its just frustrating having to change all my racing setups every state i live in.

good luck to you overseas, come home safely! The KCRC club's fall race is two, one day races. They usually get a big turnout, too. This year they did 424 and 426 both days.
Check the RCU forums, the Kansas / Missouri guys try to post notices here about upcoming races, you can watch for two day events that way.
Cheers, and our best wishes go with you.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
Hello Scott,
Look for there to be an nmpra race or two in tx next year. I don't have any details yet, but I will be trying to get a couple of races going back in the texas area again. I will post up the info when I get further along. Another event that is comming on is the new 426 event. It will be any quickie airframe with the jett 426 approved engine. The event is slow enough that it can be ran on the short course, which is a lot of fun.

excelent. i noticed it says you are from kileen. when you talk with dub to get the 426 motor, tell him you want to be notified when they practice. we meet to practice not too far from you at the Hearne airport. he usually informs all that want to know when they are flying, and there ends up being 5 or 6 guys practicing with poles.

Good deal, thanks!
Hearne airport is only like and 1:25 min away!
Actually might plan a 64D flight to this airport for Thursday to check it out.

You know guys we only need 5 guys in three areas. 5 in the Metroplex, 5 in Austin-San Antonio, and 5 in Houston. If we could get a field in the Metroplex, one in Austin or Waco, and one in Houston, we would have ourselfs a 424, 426 series start. AMA 3 pole short course. I think I can get the 5 in the Metroplex. Were there's a will, there's a way.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
It would be great to have some 424 races; Mike Walther had pointed out in another posting here or somewhere, about the demise of these classes and the downfalls of trying to put on racing these classes; instead of 3 pole, consideration should be given to 2 Pole 600 feet; Fred French ran this at his Race Ranch in 2009, it worked out great; a lot easier to run a 2 pole course, less space and people needed; most of the clubs that currently run Club 40 400 feet 2 Pole, could easily extend that another 200 feet to race both Club 40 and 424.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
There are 3 pole guy's who will not run a 2 pole course. I can't see 600 feet. You got to admit the 600' course at Fredies was way to long....boring. 424 very good times will be in the 1:25's and 426 in the 1:10's on the AMA short course, while this is not for everbody, we just need 5 guy's from three different areas. The ef1 electric guys are also wanting a three pole event, so we could shorten (have two number one pylons and let them run with us. This is what Gene does with the Q-25 at 450' and the electric guys at 400', I think.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
Before I blew out my neck I flew three pole all the time, and was getting ready to start racing too. After the surgery, and nerve damage I seem to have lost a step, and three pole really messes me up now.
Plus it seems to be a majority wants to run 2 pole vs. 3 pole. My club doesn't have the room to do it, or even want to mess with racing, and other clubs, that in the past, ran 3 pole will not do it now. So if the DFW area wants to run it, GREAT! let me know when and where and I'll see if I can make the trip. Now on the other side of that coin, seems we're on hard times and not everyone is willing to spend the money to either support 428, 422 racing or retool and run 426. I have been forced to change 3 times in the past 18 months, and simply can't afford anymore than I'm already doing, (Club 40). I do hope to get an EF-1 after the first of the year to play around with, if everything goes well. I guess my point is, that there is more to the decline of racing other than just the 2 pole 3 pole debate.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
jstaff,
we can easily come up with pilots for a 424/426 series in the houston area. i am trying to get a couple of races together for the up comming season. i have three in the works that are pretty solid i just have to get the dates situated properly.
i can think of a couple of guys in the metroplex area that you may mot be thinking of. what field can we use to host races in the metroplex? are you familiar with the thunderbird field? i hear they have a new one. we used to run races at thunderbirds until the boundary line got too big that it would have to shut down traffic on one of the roads in the park.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
Someday we in be on the New Thunderbird Field, the question is when (it's been two years in the making now). It looks really promising since it is flat and wide open for at least 500' from the pilots stations to the first brush or small trees. Should be able to hold AMA 422 short course course 3 pole. Our biggest problem is getting enough extra help to run the races. I will keep you posted.
* Last three photos: Standing on Centerline of 480' x 40' runway looking North, South, and East. Brush and trees on the North and South ends are 600' plus from the end of the runway.

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
Gene the new T-bird field looks like a possibility. Our field in Richardson is a maybe. The Hotmac field in Waco. I think each group in each area has to find a club with a field thats willing to have one to two races a year. I think the entry fees have to be 25.00 to 30.00 dollars to make it worth while for the local club to hold an event. I agree with you on the help side but if we really want to do this we get wife's, kids, dogs whatever. I raced a couple of times this year with the mo/kan guys and I can tell you it was a lot of fun. I did'nt make the KC race at the end of the year but I was trying to get there when I had my little medical condition. Were there's a will there's a way. How about Austin YOU guys you out there!

RE: PYLON RACING IN TEXAS
I know A.J. and them have a great thing going, and I hope they keep it going. They have done it with no real help from NMPRA, it seems Dist. 8 revolved around Houston, and that's where it's stuck. Other than the race down in the valley, I have had NO luck in getting a 3 pole race going. Now I will also say that I'm not as well connected as Dennis, and he has my full support in getting a couple races going as well.
