New production N-40
<meta charset="utf-8">
RC Pylon Community,
We are formulating a plan to resume production of the Nelson N-40 motor for use
in 422 and 428, meaning the N-40 would be commercially available again. We have
been machining replacement parts for these motors and are ready to make
the commitment to manufacture complete engines. It will be a large investment
for us to tool up to make all the parts. Before we make this commitment we wish
to determine how the market and contest board will respond if we decide to do
this.
Our plan, is that all parts will be machined at Aero Precision Machine with
assistance from
Henry Nelson. Also we will be assembling and testing all motors to guarantee
performance standards. Customers will order motors directly from Aero Precision
Machine, we will handle all sales and interfacing with customers. Complete motor
availability would be 4 to 6 months from project start date. The motors will be
priced at $425 each.
For anyone not familiar with Aero Precision here is some back ground
information. We are a machine shop located in NC that has been in business for
20 years. We currently service many industries with a focus on machining parts
for commercial and military aviation, pharmaceutical industries, and various
machine
components. OurCNC machinesare on the leading edge of technology and are more
then capable to machine N-40 components. Also we have been hosting pylon races
at our flying
field Old Julian Airport and I have been involved with model aviation on and off
for 40
years.www.oldjulianairport.org
Our goals are to:
1. Provide a motor that mirrors the performance and consistency that Henry
Nelson has provided the RC community for the past 20 years.
2. Provide excellent customer service and maintain inventory to meet
customer demand for many years to come.
3. Promote all facets of pylon racing and support the community.
We are taking pre orders for 422 and 428 motors now. If you want motors for the
NATS get your orders in. We will be basing our production numbers on pre order
levels. Place orders by sending email to[email protected]
or call336-685-0016, 8am -5 pm est.
Thanks

RE: New production N-40
There couldn't be a better family to pick up this engine production!
Aero Precision Machine is a first class aerospace manufacturer with top notch equipment. And it's all run by very capable people, with RC Pylon roots! What could be more appropriate?
Mike Langlois and his wife/sons have done a ton to help bring pylon back to NC and now they will be helping the sport as a whole.
I for one offer my sincere gratitude and wish them the best in this new endeavor!

RE: New production N-40
In response to the questions that have been ask about our plan to offer N-40
engines.
1. At this time we are only planning to sell Long stroke engines for 422 and
428. They will be built with short stroke cases and long stroke internal parts.
These will be exactly the same as the ss/ls conversions that are currently
being used and approved by the contest board.
2. We are only taking pre orders for complete engines. Contact Aero Precision
for new engines only. Once we order cases and start this project a website will
be created so that we can better interface with customers and they will be able to place
orders for engines there or over the phone.
3. Contact Henry Nelson or Dave Shadel to purchase parts, engine conversions,
engine repairs, plugs, or any other items they sell.
4. We will be supporting the community with parts and service in the future.
An announcement will be made when we are ready to take part orders. Until then, go
to Henry.
5. We are not planning to offer any 426 engines.
6. We are in contact with the contest board and will not start production until
we are sure the engines will be approved. No one needs to worry they are
purchasing an engine that is not going to be legal. We are not accepting any
money at this time, we wish to get some verbal commitments to gauge the demand and determine
how many cases to order for the first production run.
7. In the future we will be offering Ultra thrust mufflers.
8. We hope to support the short stroke engine, and realize their use in the Canadian market. Please
bear with us, we can devote time to that product after we get the long stroke in production. Henry still
has parts to support ss engines.
We are very happy with all the support we have received since making
the announcement. We are focusing on getting the 422 and 428 ls engines in production
first. Our main goal is to get this engine in production and tested.
There will be spare parts inventory build up when we are machining the
first batch. We need to focus directly on the N-40 422 and 428 LS as the first step.
Aero Precision will machine, assemble, and test all engines before shipment to customers
so that we can guarantee consistency and performance.
Thanks

My Feedback: (1)
RE: New production N-40
I'm glad to see someone willing to pickup the torch and carry it forward Mike. From what I read online about your company, you have both the experience and the resources to make engine production a successful sideline. I was curious about one thing.
Why are the new LS engines going to be produced in a SS case?
At this time we are only planning to sell Long stroke engines for 422 and

The SS/LS layout uses a Large diameter and thick flange sleeve that has the bolt hole pattern for the head screws
machined in the flange. The advantage of this layout is that the sleeve is aligned to the ports in the case
by the head screws. The SS and LS case use the same casting.
