Default Paint on the Mylar?

Randy E. in MN has a very nice technique to make wings that are as good as "painted in the mold" 428 wings but which are legal for 424 and Q-25. Question: What thickness of mylar is used and where did you buy it? Thanks!

Here is that thread you are wanting from Randy Etken. Post #15 says he uses .014 Mylar from CST.

Thanks Scott. I thought I had read the thread carefully before posting but I guess I didn't read closely enough. Thanks!

If you work at it you will get it, took me 3-4 tries to get it right. I now make all wings in a mold, the end product is better and surprisingly less time to make but cost is more. If you have any questions, just ask.

Thanks Randy. I am interested in the technique for 424 and Q-25 where molded wings are not allowed. Your method seems to be able to provide a near-molded finish that meets the rules of 424. Before you switched to molds, did you have a chance to try the 0.010 mylar that you mentioned? I'm going to order some and I'm curious as to whether to order 0.014 or 0.010. Thanks.

.014 mylar worked the best. The idea to use .010 was to get the leading edge finished more, but this did not work, still had about a 1/4" on the leading edge that needed to be finished and the .014 worked better. Also I used KlassKote paint. This is excellent paint butwill not blend in when you do your leading edge and extremly hard to rub out the paint lineon the leading edge. I now use PPGConcept single stage very easy toblend in withan airbrush but twice the money
