MVVS Quickie 500
 

Im interested in the MVVS Quickie 500 and can't seem to find anyone that sells them. I'm wondering if this engine has
been discontinued ?

I believe it has. I've got one NIB that I keep meaning to put on a plane and try out, but other things keep getting in the way. We used to race around here (Kansas-Nebraska) with them, along with Nelsons and Thunder Tigers. The MVVS were put into the same local class as the Rossi .40, but really they took over the class from the Rossi. I flew Rossi, and before I got this MVVS on a plane we weren't flying that class any more.

If you can find them,,, suggest a short header with the short pipe and 8.75 or a 9 pitch prop,,, its a fun little engine for goofing off with a wee bit of speed to it :D

I have my first Nelson engine, I assume its a short stroke. There is no indication of it being a long stroke, so
what kind of rpms should I get on my tach

If it's a Q500 and if it's broken in and in good shape it should get 19500 to 20000 on an 8.8/8.75 prop.

I have a Viper with a TT 46 and ultra thrust Muffler and also have a MVVS 500 with the MVVS pipe and I have both engines run ning around 16000 rpm. And my friend
has a OS 46FX with a header and tuned pipe and he runs by me with ease. Ive tried 9x7 -8.8x9.0-and 10x7 props. my fastest is the TT46 wth a 10x7. I am also using powermaster 15% nitro fuel. I use to here my muffler get on the pipe after a lap or two but not lately. I would suspect our speeds to be nearly the same but I must be doing something wrong, can someone give me some advice ?

You need to get that nelson over 19k on the pinch..

8.8 x 9 was a moderately heavy prop for that motor, if its a little tired, it may just be too much prop.

I'd get a 8.8 x 8.75 or 8 3/4" x 8.5 and if your not hitting 19k, something is not right, or it needs to be freshened up with a new top end.

If your TT46 is/was getting on the pipe only after 1or2 laps something was not right.

First thing which Nelson TT40/46 tuned muffler do you have. He made 2 for the engine. A short speed muffler and a longer sport muffler. The short muffler measures 5.125 in approx. From the back of the header (where the can joins it) to the end of the muffler. And that's what you need. If you have the long sport muffler you are not going to get the rpm you need.

The TT40/46PRO should get above 18K and up to 18.5K with the Nelson tuned muffler on an APC 9/6. In my experience they struggle to get to 17.5K with a 9/7 because they can't get all the way up on the pipe, at least the 40. If you launch them that way they are on the pipe in a few feet not 1 or 2 laps.

Once you get to 17.5 with the tuned muffler and a 9/6 prop you can start thinking about thinner shims under the head to get you the rest of the way.
