I still have some pictures around here someplace of Jim and a couple of his DH Tiger Moths and I also have a picture of you with a P-63, maybe with a V-tail at
one of the Tangerine meets in Apopka.

Stu Richmond was also flying one of your P-63's with a Taipan gold head .15 at that time.

I sure miss those screamin' .15 engines.

As for the Dave Latsha Rivets fuselages I own the molds and the rights to make them. And they are still on my web site Matney Models

What kind of performance specs can a .15 k&b cox conquest with rear exhaust put out? EX. RMP with certain props. Also, what modifications were made to these engines? I'm looking to purchase and build a QM 15 plane if anyone has any suggestions.

Contact Ron Young. He is the premier customizer of Cox/K&B .15 engines. He has posted on this site many times. Just search by name. Also I think MECOA may still have engines available. I think I have a couple of these engines I can part with, let me know if you are interested, and I'll figure out some sort of price.

What are you looking to sell them for? I got a brand new engine but what I really need is a plane and propellers. You can't really find good props for these engines anymore. I did get in touch with Ron and he wanted me to send my engine to him but I don't think I need too much modification because I'm not racing. The extra 500 rpm would be nice but I don't want to send it all the way to california.

Hi All,

J&J models had a Quarter Midget Mustang that was competitive in its time. It is now offered by Eureka Aircraft models. It is a all wood kit but, they also have a foam wing version available too.

I have two Ron Young Cox Conquest .15 engines. They have Ron's numbers on them; #34 and #35,
these are all Cox parts, (no Rossi ABC piston and liner). They have finned heads for the standard 1/4-28
glow plugs, and straight venturies (no Perry carburetor). One engines mounting lugs have been enlarged for 6/32 screws. I'll sell them for $60.00 and $65.00 respectively. I imagine I could get at least that on E-Bay! I'll probably only sell one, and keep one for myself.
Regarding props, you can't use the props we raced with on a larger airframe! If you are going to fly a similar size and weight airplane to our old 1/4 midgets, then the props we used back then will get you in the ball park. I believe we were in the 130 to 140 mph. range. Rev Up 7/5, 7/6, 7/5N, and 7/6N all worked well, but they were all reworked. A lot of races were won with Top Flite Power props too. Diameters of 5-3/4 were common. It's been about twenty years since I raced the Coxes so my recollection may be wrong, but I think we used to turn them between 21,00 and 23,000 rpm. I never used any composit props on my Coxes. The next engine we ran after the Coxes was the Nelson. When I started running the Nelsons I started flying carbon fiber props. All the carbon props were custom made. Most composit props are made over size, so they can be custom reworked for the engine and application. You never said which model Cox you have, the
sport, freeflight, or QM version? If you have the sport version it won't turn these small props fast enough.

Greg, you were very close on the props and engines ! As I remember I would run the Rev Up's between 6 1/4 to 6 1/2 inches and between 4 to 5 pitch. RPM were 22,500 to 23,000 on the ground. The Nelson's started around 23,000 to 24,000 but I am not too sure on the prop details as I did not fly the Nelsons that often.

I had a typo on prop diameters. I shouldn't have said 5-3/4", but rather 6-3/4". I just went and measured
the best Cox prop I ever had, and it measured 6-1/8". It was a Top Flite Power Prop. Greg

Greg I checked some of my props and they ranged from 6'" to 6 3/8" top flites and rev ups one of these day I am tempted to get a plane off the wall and take it for a flight or two. Ed

Ed, A couple of years ago I laid up a P39/63 Quarter Midget to build as an electric, but never got around to finishing it. Those airplanes were a lot of fun, and they sure flew great. I guess those were the good old

Greg - Gall took one of his old one-piece stingers, carved out the firewall and rigged up an electric mount, flew it a while as an electric. He said it was close to the same speed as when he was flying with Rossi .15's.

That plane now lives in my basement, I haven't bought the e-goodies for it yet, but last time he was here he left it for me to fiddle with.

He was using a 6-series e-flite motor, 2700KV or something like that.

If I live long enough, and can find a bucket full of "round too it's" I'll get to some of those projects.
Seems like I have less time since retirement. I'm coaching Science Olympiad at two different schools
4 afternoons a week. That,and the 4 grandkids keeps me jumping. Greg

Greg, I know that several people are going electric with the QM15 planes. I guess we all don't have enough time for the Round To It projects. I guess we should have some great memories of the years we were racing QM15, one of my favorite races was at Rough River KY, great site from up on the hill and it was a place that at least once a year you got to see a lot of friends

I just got involved with our club's winter pylon racing this year. They call it Club 20 but we all run OS .15 LAs which don't make too much power. We turn Graupner or APC 6.5 x 6.5 props at about 16800 on the ground. The minimum wing area is 400 square inches. All of the planes are scratch built. It is really a blast for me although it sounds like Amature Hour compared to what you guys are talking about. It sounds to me like you guys ought to set a date and have an invitational race for old times sake. Hell, it couldn't hurt could it?

Why is the Matney Rivets wing an almost straight wing? I scratch built a rivets off german plans many moons ago although I don't have it anymore it was just like this one on the youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAb-WHiILg4 check out right at the end of the video the wing is much different and more Delta shaped .

All of these racers are semi-scale. Airplanes with higher aspect ratio wings for a given area just perform better than a completely scale wing planform for these older Goodyear designs.

Well they should offer a scale wing as well , then I'd consider buying one. Actually no it would have to look like the one in the video .When I had mine about 12 yrs ago it really flew awesome almost jetlike. I built flaps into the wing for landings because it was a very thin wing. I didn't race it , just used it as a sport flyer .

Well the wings are just made from foam cores, get out your bow. But if you made the wing more scale like with a shorter span, the wing area would be very much less, since the root section is somewhat constrained by the molded glass fuselage.

The Chord on the wing root was quite wide on the original kind of A4 skyhawk-like . I'm just too lazy these days with too many kits to build already to start scratch building again.

Does anybody know the C.G. range indicated by the Sig Doubler 2 plans?, got an old one ready to remaiden. Its set a little ahead of the spar and gonna fly regardless, but it would be great if someone could post Sig's recomendation please!
