Default pull-pull rudder cable question

On a 50cc yak, one of the two pull-pull cables has a "twisted" spot in the middle of the cable. It is not a knot but it looks like the cable has been twisted and created a small half twisted part in the middle.

Should I worry about this and replace this cable ?

I showed this to experienced fliers at the field and most did not think it is an issue, except for one guy who thought his cable got cut off because of a twisted cable.

I am hesitant to fly with this worry on mind and the same time feeling lazy about replacing the cable.

Will it be safe with this situation? i.e. can the cable sustain the tension with this "twisted" spot in the middle of the cable?

Thanks in advance!

Personally, if something on my plane worries me at all, then it gets replaced. Think of it as a safety issue and you cannot be too safe when flying larger models, or any model for that matter

Cable is cheap & easy. Seems like I always see another way I'd like it to look anyway after I install.

Thanks guys for the advice.

Actually there is another factor here. I called local hobby stores here and non had similar cable (steel cable). Also, I am not sure what type of fishing line I can use as a replacement.

Given this, can the streel cable break because of rudder tension at his spot? What are the chances:10%, 5%, or maybe 1%? or ZERO%!!!

Thanks again.

100% chance. Just no telling when.
The twist as you call it, is a kink, and severely weakens the cable

I agree with PE here. I would replace the cable but would do so with Kevlar cable availabe from ACP. The reason for the Kevlar is it is lighter, won't strech over time, you need not worry about kinks and has no possibility of creating any RF issues.

I get all my pull-pull cables from the fishing department at my local WallyWorld. The also sell the ferrules and crimping pliers. No need to buy "hobby speciality" cables.

I use kevlar string on my ultimate for rudder and elevator. stuff is amazingly strong and super light. I just crimp the ends with the swedges and put heat shrink over em.
I think the cable they are talking about is downrigger cable. find it at any store that carries much fishing goods. i just didnt want long steel strands on mine.

Replace the cable, but find out why it's twisting. Is there a 4-40 threaded part that's unscrewing and coming loose? It'll just happen again if you don't identify the root cause.

I 2nd Joe's post above about finding out why it twisted or you will have the same problem again. I also agree with the others saying to change it.

I used the Kevlar line from Troy Built Models (yellow color) that they claimed was rated at 1000oz and it snapped after less than 10 flights. Granted, it's on my big 150cc 3W Extra which may be extreme. I then replaced with the thick black coated kevlar line from Don's Hobby shop. What lines are you guys talking about from fishing shop that can handle 1000oz or more and has nice coating? I cant seem to find one at Dick's sporting goods or Walmart for my smaller 50-100cc planes.

Stripped a plastic servo wheel on a 62cc SD Yak once. Made for an interesting landing. Now i only use double locking ally horns.Snap a cable and find out for yourself.
