That is the pitfall of multicylinder.. The Moki being 5 cylinder even at 750rpm idle has the radial lopey idle. When you ad two more cylinders it definitely looks better but it loses some of the round motor sound...

Crashed Gee Bee? What happend? Tell us the story and post some pictures please!!

I like the radial right now.

I run it with 1:32 at the moment, after 3 liters I will use 1:40 and make it ready to fly**

The quality is good, no oil leaks and it runs good!

We will see if it runs in the air as it runs at the ground ;-)

well guys, i got the baffles installed in my gee bee and flew a second flight. overheating issue solved!!! did a bit more trim first half of the flight and wow does this bird go!! started getting into the groove with it and bringing it lower to the ground. seems rock solid! it did help to slow the aileron servos down a bit. my wife did get a bit of video on it but had a very hard time keeping up with it, so she quit mid flight.
will see if i can get her to post what she has on youtube

ordering the graphics now!

In deference to Hannes, I have had SMOKE on both my Gee Bee's... I LIKE it!! and BOTH airplanes have survived a combined total of 40 flights[X(]
It DOES add weight; WEIGHT (torque and gravity) are the mortal enemies of this airplane (not to mention a dead engine!!)
But, as Delmar said, "compromises must be made"...

My next Gee Bee will have a DA120 and will be put together with "less weight" as the primary objective.

i think i will get used to flying this bird for a bit, then maybe add smoke, the mufflers are already tapped for it so its just a pump, tank and battery

well i just broke down and ordered the graphics for my R2 from CFC Graphics. nice guy to deal with. hes a real Gee Bee lover!! hes got a nice Gee Bee Z that is up for sale from the Don Neill plans.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to introduce myself and ask a question.
My name is Jaz (self-confessed GeeBee fan) and I purchased a CARF GeeBee fairly completed but unfinished from Swinny with the intentions of having it flying early next year. This GeeBee is fitted with all new DA150, canister’s, Hitec 7955TG's and the list goes on. It had not had the side door fitted, canopy perspex, wheel pants and other trims.
So far I have completely stripped the plane back to the bare fuselage, then going through everything and adding my own preferable hardware and touches as I go along.
At this stage I am replacing all the flying wire mounting bolts as quite a few are missing, checking the alignment of the wires when tightened up and the finishing of the wire adjustments.
When I get my new incidence meter I will recheck the dihedral and adjust the wires where required so this is where my question is.
What is an acceptable amount of thread or turns of the wire into the brass links? They currently screw in around 1cm so there is not a lot of room to play with and me being paranoid want to make sure this plane has the best chance of staying in one piece.

I was also looking to do a new Gee Bee with the Evo160 radial. What size is that beautiful scale prop you have been running? Will you use the same one with the radial?

The adjustable flying wire end should be threaded all the way onto the flying wire, then backed off 5 full turns. This will provide sufficient thread ‘purchase’ and adjustability.

Once everything is adjusted, you certainly want to have at least 3 full turns of material connecting the two pieces. Lock nuts are also essential to eliminate play and keep the flying wires at the proper length and angle.

@ MattyMatt: The prop is a 30x14, it´s made for DA150! On the radial I will use another one.

Hello

I hawe watching this tread for a while and like many of your Gee Bees,espesially Hannes Evo radial.

I have the first generation Carf Gee Bee R2 new in box and a Moki 250.Planning to set up with Jr8911 on all surface,solo prop and a smoke system.Starting to build any day now,just need to finish some other projekt first:-)

Any of you have some hints and tips regarding this set up?

The designer/manufacturer (Andreas Gietz) believes the Moki 250 and his Gee Bee are a "match made in heaven!"

That said, you should be aware that your wing loading will be high and your Gee Bee will be as difficult as it gets as far as weight and torque factors impacting its handling in the air and especially on landing.

IF you are a very experience pilot and you have access to a large grass field, your chances of succes are GOOD

IF you do NOT have lots of experience with highly loaded models and/or no access to a large, smooth grass field, then your chances for success are reduced...

I am speaking as someone with 40 CARF Gee Bee flights but NO experience flying the Gee Bee with the Moki...

Thanks Richard, that was just what I was looking for.

Sorry one more question on the wires.

The Gee Bee I have here has been setup using 3mm bolts for the flying wires on all mounting points. I sat down today and read the manual and it states that the wires are fixed with 4mm bolts. Looking at the photo of the hardware pack in the manual the wire bolts all look 3mm when compared to the 6 x 4mm engine dome bolts. Plus to fit4mm bolts all the wire brass hard points will have to be redrilled larger.

Can you please confirm that it is 4mm for the wire hard points before I go redrilling things?

Thank you for your tips.I too worry with the high wing load but now i made up my mind and bilding this Gee Bee:-)

I have been flying big scale and jet for some years now and i hope my experience is good.I have the AW Gee Bee R3 flying with the moki 250 but now deside to put the moki 400 in the R3,i needed a new home for the 250 and got the carf GB and i hope my plan is good:-)
