Thanks Rich, I am just trying to understand what you used as a datum point for Zero, the center of the leading edge at the wing root? Also on your video I heard someone say that you have made some adjustments to dial in the plane, additional right thrust and rudder trim. Can you elaborate?

Thanks again for contributing!

Mike,
I blocked up the fuselage so that it was perfectly level in both axis than set the angle protractor against the bottom of each wing half, adjusting the flying wires until I had achieved the desired and equal dihedral measurements. Using the leading edge radius as a datum point would probably be more accurate than my method, but my crude bubble/angle device required I rest it against a flat surface on the wing.

The comment on the video was that I had adjusted my rudder mix on my radio after flight #1 and 2 that day (this was flight 3). It is a good idea to mix right rudder deflection with throttle, but the amount is VERY subtle. On flight one, I had FAR too much right rudder and at full throttle the airplane was rolling to the right. I reduced this substantially prior to flight #2 and straight line stability was much-improved. However, the rudder/throttle mix is NOT a linear relationship, so prior to flight #3 I adjusted the mix offset - which is to say, the point at which rudder begins to mix with throttle.

With a 150 size engine and neutral rudder, the airplane WILL in fact crab to the right at lower throttle settings due to the molded in right fin; then at full throttle, it will torque to the left. Rudder mixing is necessary to offset these tendencies.

These mixes will vary depending upon engine and propeller choice, so it will be an individual adjustment and preference on the part of each pilot.

Custom made for DA 150 and scale propeller by www.seidel-props.de

Nice, but still not perfect...

Here is scale hub #2 and the newly installed dummy on my "R1"
The weather here in northern CA has been VERY nice much of the time. Today however...VERY bad WINDS[]

I have been too busy working to fly; then during my time off, too involved with projects in my shop...
No doubt my thumbs are VERY rusty... the Gee Bee will be flown again soon once I am "back in shape"

Two killer propellers are on the way which should put all 18HP to work going VERY FAST and TURNING LEFT!!!

Hannes

You definitely get the award for the most authentic eye for Gee Bee detail!  Your Gee Bee shrines are very cool too.  That is a neat picture of you and Richard in the background.  I enjoyed my visit to your Facebook account the other day .  .  .  .  lot's of Gee Bee videos & photos.

I picked up one of those new Horizon Hobby mini Gee Bees too, haven't flown it yet.

Iam reducing weight on my Gee Bee. I plan to cut some of the balsa out of the front of the rudder to possibly reduce more weight. Can anyone tell me weather this will have a negative affect on the plane. Would air rush into the front of the rudder and cause a problem.

Plane looks great. HAve seen it fly on some Youtube postings.
I am new to this thread. Am waiting on my Gee Bee to show up here in western Canada. To save reading 50 pages of conversations would you provide some specs on your airplane please.

Weight
Balance point
Dihedral
Engine and prop used
Is the dummy engine open only enough to vent air to the engine
Is the hub assembly and prop I see still available to purchase
