CARF is a totally different Gee Bee than you have, it is a large scale plane, and pretty true to scale. More people can chime in on this
Here is a link. Check it out They have amazing planes!!!!
[link]http://www.carf-models.com/public_carf/pages/shop/productModel.html?root=product&proId=752&linkId=@7@752&title=GeeBee%20R2[/link]
I really do not think there are any HobbyKing Gee Bee topics here, you may want to start a new one. Also take my suggestion and put it in the electric section if you are trying to do electric, you will get a whole lot more responses.
Now that you know what a CARF Gee Bee is you can start saving and get one
CARF is just short for Composite ARF
You are fine, like I said it does not hurt to ask...

I'll open a new thread and I'll go on reading this one
Thanks for the help.

Hannes,
ANOTHER GREAT FLIGHT! The 30x10 certainly makes lots more noise than any of your previous props and the speed still looks good.
The Menz appears to be a WIDE blade design. NICE LANDING. Do you prefer the pull of the 30x10 or the speed of the 28x14??

Thanks buddy**
The handling of the plane with the 30x10 is much more easyer, BUT I´m in love with the speed of the 28x14** :-)

Gee Bee gents, FEAR NOT...
The CARF CAN be landed dead stick... and DOWN WIND, no less (just don't ask me how[X(])
I always assumed a deadstick Gee Bee was simply a DEAD Gee Bee, but the video does not lie. The 'secret' is to keep your speed up and keep your wits about you (the latter is the most difficult).
This is my second deadstick landing... the first did not turn out quite so well[]
I have not had a chance to figure out why the engine quit; just lucky to still have my Gee Bee intact!!

Richard
Congratulations on the first recorded dead stick landing with a CARF Gee Bee. Better yet, it was a great landing. I still remember reading the account of your first deadstick landing due to radio issues. That was on take off and you didn't have many options. Much better results this time. Great job!

Hey wow! I am doing so C.G. changes on my Comp Arf Gee. So I decided to look on a forum and too my surprise someone posted my video of me flying on here cool. The Gee Bee has a DLE 170, Biela 30x12 prop, all Hitec 5645 MG servos. You can use more powerful servos but i think its over kill. This plane FC/CA has been around for a while and there werent any 333 oz servos around that I know of. Thanks for posting the video rowdog.

@ hannes83: right now my CG is 75mm.The plane weighs 36.5 lbs and I desire to remove2 to 2.5lbs from the plane by moving my rudder servo all three switchs ( 2 battery and 1 ignition switch) and reciever forward. I think this will allow me to take alot of weight off thefirewall. I hope to get a little more speed, and reduce landing speed by reducing wing load. What do you think?

I finally weighed this Gee Bee, totally ready to fly, but dry = 35 pounds. This is heavier than I expected, but is not out of the ordinary for this particular model. As you can see by the fact the airplane CAN be landed engine out, the wing loading is not completely off the map![X(]
At least one half pound of extra weight is from the 3W157 and my plane also has a smoke system. But 33-35 pounds is about normal.
Some have flown this plane with a Moki 215-250 which packs on at least another 3 pounds. As long as the pilot is up to the task 100% of the time, this Gee Bee will survive the Moki (and sound SOOOO good doing it)
Hannes and I have found a CG of 74mm to be ideal; and this MUST be measured using a precision balancer like the EZ Balancer. The old "2-finger" method AIN'T gonna cut it
It also helps with aircraft stability to increase wing dihedral by one degree (from 4.5 to 5.5 deg.) as well as positively confirming EQUAL dihedral of both wing panels.
The rest is just gritting your teeth and hanging on for dear life

@ Bumble.bee78: I think it is a very good idea. The landing characteristics will be better
Do you have any pictures from your Gee Bee? Flying? Building?
That is the wayI check my CG with the balancer:

I use the EZ Balance on all my large models, its a great tool. Soon as i can figure out how to post pics ill put plenty of them up. As for now I noticeed Rowdog posted two of my videos from youtube on here. (Post # 1086 and Post # 1165)

Wow! Downwind and Deadstick! Amazing recovery!! When you mention the 6.5 degrees of dihedral what is the zero ref. point? Most modelers seem to use inches under the wingtip. I want to get this right when I start building.
Thanks,
Mike

The Granvilles Brothers and Howell Miller designed the Gee Bee racers with 4.5 degress of dihedral. This is in reference to zero degrees dihedral; if the wings were absolutely flat.
Increasing the dihedral one degree to 5.5 degrees (this is EACH WING PANEL; 5.5 degrees above zero) will improve stability without altering scale fidelity noticeably.
You must use a degree protractor (see earlier posts) or there are laser devices that are even better. Harbor Freight carries both.
